Job offer rescinded. Deflated!

Well, I didn't expect this.. but I was "LET GO" aka "The position offered has been rescinded".

Here is my gripe -

I did not receive a structured orientation, especially on their computer system (which I'd never used).

I was placed with two other staff who are great at their job, but wanted things done in "two different ways" depending on what unit that patient would be admitting on. His or Hers. For the most part.. of course some things have to be consistent.

After only SEVEN days orienting and sporatically trying to navigate the computer system with intermittent guidance, I was told I was not learning it fast enough...and the job was rescinded, but I was offered per diem work there.

Despite all of this, I'm still feeling like a failure. I know I am proficient with computers.. heck, I study online, used to work for AOL, and my other job is all on the computer.

I do not feel comfortable there taking a per diem position, and I kind of feel it was offered to me as a "parting gesture".

I just can't seem to get it right in nursing. I oftentimes feel so inept, no confidence, ever since nursing school, but damn, I've invested and AM investing so much into it. Have I just not found my niche yet????

Just feeling so defeated..

So sorry this happened. Do you have any recourse? Such as ask for a dedicated shift or two of computer training? Ask for a different preceptor?

What do you feel your chances are of finding another position soon? How strapped are you for income at this point in time? If working per diem at this place is going to be your only nursing experience for the foreseeable future, perhaps it would be better to accept those terms, at least until something else presents itself. You could just get the experience you need to work your way into a permanent offer again, you don't know. Something to consider.

Unfortunately this is in LTC.. so there are not many other preceptors available but the two I trained with. I did explain that I wanted to come in and dedicate two or so hours to only computer training, but that was not even considered. I was on speaker-phone, and I know that HR has to be "in on the call" when a person is terminated.. so the decision was made. Perhaps next time, I will speak out and ask sooner for things. That was one of my problems there... I think I waited too long. Just wish I had been given a clue that this was around the corner.. getting blind sided sucks.

caliotter3 - I've considered it, but I don't think I will be happy there. I'm not financially strapped (yet). I do have another job with fluctuation hours (unfortunately) so I can hang on for a bit. I really wanted to try daytime hours., but am thinking my personality may be more geared towards nights... I enjoy the quiet (Yes, I know.. don't say that word).. I mean, less of the daytime hustle and bustle. I may consider returning to nights. Just trying to regain my confidence.

Move on to the next job and learn from it. I'm a new nurse and on job #3. First 2 jobs were a miserable fail, but I'm holding my own so far on job number 3. My biggest mistakes at the first 2 jobs were being afraid to make mistakes and not knowing some of the nursing tricks and tips to make your day go faster. (Still working on that. It's really tough in LTC because it's hard to find a good mentor willing to help you out.) I still have so much to learn, but feel like I'm starting to get it. Keep the per diem for now and start looking elsewhere.

If I'm reading this right, OP was termed by phone????? Who does that? What a horrible manager / sleazy organization. Scrape them off and move on. Eventually, you'll look back and realize that you have had a lucky escape.

HouTx - I'm starting to see it that way now. Had to get over that "lump in my throat" day.. now I'm mad and wouldn't give them the time of day with per diem hours there.
