Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have seen TONS of people who have said "nursing is my second, third or fourth career." As I have become more and more curious I was wanting to start a thread to see what areas and walks of life all the nurses and student nurses had before embarking on this incredible medical journey.

I will go first.

I was a TRUCK DRIVER prior to being a nursing student..

NEXT.

I am excited to see what you all did in your PAST LIVES>>>>>

Specializes in Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Home Health.

I have a degree in Automotive Technology [a mechanic] I worked on our cars, replaced brakes, and rebuilt an engine. I was also a Stay at home mom from 1986 to 2001 when my youngest turned 6. He started kindergarten and I started nursing school.

My 15 y/o son wants me to help him replace the brake lines on 'his' truck. So, I guess I'm still a mechanic as well as a nurse!! :lol2: :lol2:

Specializes in Emergency.

firefighter, EMT, safety engineer, business owner, and in one more shift- finished my Bachelors of Nursing!

I was an advertising buyer for ad space at Foote Cone and Belding in NYC gosh when I was only 17years oldnot a bad first time job, a phlebotomist, Laboratory tech, Opthalmic Technician and Ophthmalmic Photographer, attended 1yr Optometry school but due to divorce had to leave beautiful state of Oregon and school. (lost everything ) but just when you think things are REALLY BAD I was able to get funding to go to nursing School and put that premed background to good use.

Ive been a waitress, sold cloths in flee market, house cleaner, I even cut fish in a Supermarket while in School ( in Oregon that Salmon was huge) been a lot of things in order to keep food and roof over my head.

Nursing has been the best paying and with the most options no regrets there.

Sometimes I wish I could have completed Optometry School and had my own practice but I adapted to the circumstances that I was faced with at the time cried my blues and moved on to what opportunities that were available to me and made the most of it. Such is life. A constant surprise.

Love reading your post and Tweety you made me laugh.

Angela
