Getting Married after Graduation?

I'll be graduating next May and my partner and I have talked about getting married soon after. I'm in a two-year BSN program and our program was heavily front loaded so the next year will be comparatively light (with time to plan our wedding, which we want to be small and informal). However, I don't want to compromise either my job applications or my wedding plans by planning the wedding so soon after graduation. Any advice about whether this is a terrible idea? I know it'd be stupid to have to turn down a job because of our wedding date, but then again, it's just one date (probably on the weekend) so maybe it wouldn't be that risky? I'm also thinking if I planned to take the NCLEX in June and picked a date in July/August for the wedding then I wouldn't risk compromising my NCLEX score by being distracted. Any thoughts from folks who got married right after graduation? Or from new grads who can tell me what your schedule was like after graduation (as far as interviews, etc)? Thanks!

Here's what you do. You tell them you're getting married and you will need off days x through y. If HR says some nonsense about not taking off during orientation, remember HR has nothing to do with your schedule. It will be your manager's call. I had two friends in a situation like that, both were told BS from HR and both were given off for their weddings/honeymoons by their managers.

I got engaged in my last semester of nursing school. NCLEX was over and done with in late May. I started my first job in August. The wedding was in October. As a new employee, I didn't qualify for much time off, so all I took was the weekend off plus one day- enough for a wedding and short local honeymoon. Instead of the big trip for a honeymoon, we saved and planned for a nice 1st anniversary trip instead.

You can get married in the time it takes to apply for a license and get a couple of witnesses. A small informal event requires a bit more planning, but nothing that should get in the way of studying.

Tons of students get married right after graduation. Schedule your wedding right after....that way you'll have the wedding out of the way before you take boards. Then look for a job.

Just tell them you have a wedding planned. Seriously, nobody is going to not hire you over that. They'll just delay your start date.

we have 2 on orientation now that are getting married this summer....no big deal, they just aren't getting paid for their time off.
