Getting into nursing school

It's pretty certain you won't be starting this fall, being June and all.

Why don't you fill in a little detail: What's your GPA? Previous college experience? What prerequisites have you completed? How many and what kinds of schools have you applied to? Where do you live? What have your entrance scores been? How many times have you taken those tests?

I am having the hardest time getting into nursing school. I have been rejected 3 times and I don't know what to do. I want to take EMT courses to at least start working in the hospital. I could take the TEAS test or HESI again. What to do ? I wanted to start nursing school in the fall.

Talk to a representative of the nursing program and see what they recommend. None of us know the requirements of your specific school or how you might be falling short.

My GPA IS 2.9 and I took the Teas test before and made a 45. I took the HESI and made a 60.80. I live in Mississippi and I did get placed as a alternate too.

Unfortunately those are not competitive scores. My best advice is to get your GPA up, and get that TEAS and HESI up, significantly.

I would also check with the schools you're considering and find out which areas will give you a leg up and work on that as well.

Be careful getting sidetracked with other programs, that could derail you both in time and money.

EMT is a great thing, but if you want to work in the hospital, you would be better off applying for a job as a CNA (many hospitals call them patient care techs now).

First, you would really need to bring up your GPA and TEAS score. I'm not sure what the requirements are for programs near you, but where I'm from (West coast) you would not be able to apply with those scores. If I were you, I would retake the core science classes and get an A in them. And then I would memorize the TEAS booklet and aim for a score of AT LEAST a 75% . Many community colleges offer tutors for free for science and math classes if your scoring below a certain grade. Make use of that! It's so helpful and free! I found them helpful because they can point out mistakes in your thinking process when you approach a question. It's worth a shot if you really want to do nursing.
