Friend is sending FB requests to all ICU/ER nurses

I have a friend/coworker that really wants to work in the ICU or the ER. She was thinking about looking up ALL the nurses at a hospital who work in any ICU or the ER and sending them a friend request on Facebook. This would mean sending hundreds of Facebook friend requests. She feels this may be a good way to network. I've told her that it is probably not a good idea. Nurses talk to each other, so they may pick up on her odd behavior, which could actually hurt her chances of ever landing one of these positions. Some may consider it to be stalking and report her to Facebook. Her account could be closed if she sends too many friend requests to people who don't know her or don't want her friend request. Her obsession with these positions and the people who work them is a bit excessive, really. Anyway, I haven't been able to convince her that this is a bad idea. I'm pretty sure she's already sent out Facebook requests to these people. What would you to say to someone like this?

Of my 959 Facebook friends, I probably regularly interact with about 7 of them. No one is going to go out of their way to recommend a stranger for a job.

That's what I thought. Especially when that stranger sends out hundreds of friend requests to people they don't know.

I don't know al the first and last names of the nurses in the ER and ICU of my hospital and I've worked here for years.

We have an online directory that lets you look up staff members, so it's pretty easy to find out. You can even print out the list of all the nurses in the facility, if you wanted. It is a little creepy that she actually took the time to look them up, though.

I don't think sending a FB friend request can be considered stalking.

That's insane that there is a lost available like that to the public. I can think of so many scenarios where that can end badly for the staff.

I ignore friend requests from people I don't know. I also have my profile set so people can't search for me, it doesn't have my last name, and it doesn't list where I work.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The directory is only available to staff working in the facility. You must be logged onto one of the computers, using its own Intranet system.

You may be right. Exceptional critical thinking is required in these departments. This person appears to be lacking in the critical thinking needed to be successful in this type of nursing if she truly believes that sending out many Facebook friend requests is the best way to land a job in those departments. It seems to me that she is just obsessed with these people anyway, for some reason.

Maybe. However, she didn't access any employee's personal work files, just their names and the units they work on. That information is readily available to anyone who works at the facility, and it's not necessarily against facility policy to browse the directory. Now, if she continues to send FB requests to people who ignore her, or somehow finds out their phone numbers/addresses and starts harassing them, then they might have a case.

I agree. However, it seems likely that this person will not receive these positions anyway.
