For LVNs or ADN grads...did you major in something diff for your Bachelors? ...

Are there any nurses out there that completed an LPN/LVN or ADN program that decided to switch majors for their Bachelors? I'm not talking about people who already had a Bachelors and switched to Nursing. I'm just wondering about people who, perhaps, received their Associates in Nursing (R.N.) and finished another two years of college to major in something different. What was it, and what was your reasoning? Do you feel it was a good choice or not?

What type of business are you planning on opening?

If I were to go back to school, it would be in something other than nursing.

I am a Diploma RN, then rec'd a BA in Jurisprudence, and Masters in Public Administration with concentration in Administration and Health Policy. Back in the day, graduated RN 1976, BA 1990, MPA 1995 BSN and MSN were nice but not REQUIRED. Today, I can not hold any fo the positions in administration that I did in the 1980s and 1990s without a minimum of BSN and some places REQUIRE MSN. I am 55 years old and considering doing a bridge MSN to advance the last 10 years of my career. I was a nurse manager, supervisor, assistant director of nursing, and director of nursing previously. NOW it has taken 14 months to get a staff position. I need to complete my speciality certification and get a minimum of BSN to maintain. My facitlity is on the "Magnet Journey". SO, if I am going back, may as well get the MSN. Many nurses in administration today have MSN and MBA. Good Luck.

I have a BSN and am planning on going back for a Master's. In what you ask? Not nursing! I am looking to expand my career options in the event that I don't want to be a nurse in 30+ years.

My cousin and I started our journey together to become nurses but after she was accepted into the program she decided in the second semester that she didnt want to be a nurse. She went to a University, got her bachelors in Accounting. Now she works for the one of the Big 4 (PwC) and she loves it. She works 8 to 4, no weekends or holidays. She gets bonuses and was recently promoted to a management position.:D

I have a BS in computer information systems/business administration and an ADN in nursing. I hope to go back next year to work in my masters in public health. I really have no interest in an MSN. I also know a few people that have an ADN and then got a BS in business and computers. I know a few who had ADNs and earned MBAs.

I just wish the RN conditions would improve.
