Hello all..:)

Well...I finally made it here, and have just returned from getting my car. I still hate flying, but I survived..!

I just got my pc up and running, the day before leaving to get my car, and this is the first day, I finally have to my self..:).

Now...here's the story on Scottsdale...Wonderful! Everything is in walking distance...with one problem...TOO DANG HOT TO WALK ANYWHERE!!!

Phx - CraZy driving maniacs!!! Speed limit 55...aww...that just means you can only go 80!! Must be the heat...because I have never seen so many un air conditioned cars in my entire life!! Staying AWAY from going to PHX EVER!!

Hospital: So far so good! Get 5-6pts a nite...with GREAT knowledgable CNAs..(so far)! CN...asked me what I wanted to work! Gave me four days off in a row, and asked me if that was enough to go, and get my car..! Work with GREAT regular staff, and two males who are also travelers! This hospital has more males as part of nursing staff...then any hospital I have ever seen! Great to see them too!

So...as of right now...I'm thinking of staying another contract...if nothing changes..!

Thanks to all for the support, and encourgement to get my butt on that plane...but I still HATE flying!

My cousin lived in Arizona for a couple of years. Make sure you check your shoes in the morning. One morning he went to put his shoes on and what do you think was in there?.........A Scorpian!

Hey you guys..:)!

Yep Mattmom...there are bigger than the palmetto bugs in TX!! And yes the humidity is much less than in Houston. Yesterday it was 101 at nite, but with the low humidity...it supposedly felt like 97. Also Scottsdale is a few degree cooler than PHX as we're north of the city! But on the days when it is 114...it doesn't make a different ...because the air is HOT...and the sun is BRIGHT! If you go out during the day...you have to go before noon..or it is just awful! But I think I'm getting used to it...as I have been out many times during the day...and I thought that would never happen! I don't got far from the air conditioning that is for sure!

Kayzee...I'm working on a Ortho/Neuro Trauma unit, and this hospital is a level one trauma facility. So we get a lot of trauma pts. I haven't worked neuro/ortho is a while...so this is good place to learn a lot at. Staff is very helpful...and the CNs have at least 20yrs experience on the unit! It's a 36 bed unit, that is divided up into 3 different stations. Each station has three nurses, and one or two CNAs, and an ortho tech. There is also a unit clerk, that floats, who puts in orders...so that is great! There is one CN who covers all three stations, who may or maybe not have pts! One RN team leads each station, and takes less pts. But so far we all work as a team!!! Get this...the patients even have INTERNET in their rooms!!! The ortho techs put up the traction, and take care of the CPM units! We have pyxis for all meds, and IVs, and the pharmacy is pretty fast with getting up meds needed. I haven't had to call for a med I needed yet...but got an order the other day, and the IV fld was up in less than 20 minutes! The hospital also have the cafeteria open at nite from 12:30am to 2:30am, and you an get hot food!! I can also go to any educational offerings they have here.

And my daughter really likes it here. She likes our new apt., and the mall..:chuckle! We went there twice, and still haven't seen all the stores yet! We're in a gated quiet community, with closed circuit cameras, and the apt has monitored alarm security. So she feels secure here.

Renee I would love to meet your sister. Just say when:cool:!

Thanks everyone for the welcome, and good wishes! I will keep you informed as to how things go here...but so far...no real complaints!

Enjoy Arizona. Lived there myself for 8 years thru the 80s. It is too big and too crowded in the Valley for me ever to toy with moving back. But I could be tempted to live outside Flagstaff, if I did not love WA so much. I miss the sunsets the most! They are just spectacular! And winters are golden! Just watch out for the snowbirds! I DO Hope you like it there. Oh, and get used to the bugs, All the people moving into their desert habitat makes em restless; rattlesnakes, too. Hey , it was their home first, ya know? Anyhoo.... Check your shoes before you put em on so you don't get any NASTY surprises. Scorps love shoes. Good luck!

Ughhhh...scorpions in shoes(((shudder))). Also check your folded bath towels...I found one in there once..but there was a lot of building and digging in my neighborhood and like Debbie said, they start moving when people take their habitat...

Mostly i see rattlesnakes and scorpions only out in the country now around these parts (which is fine with me...LOL!)

Sounds like a real nice hospital....love to have good techs helping out on the floor!!

Glad to hear you are having a good experience and agood time out there!! Sounds like you are working in a good place!!! We missed you on the board during your trip. Glad to see you posting again. Man did you miss an interesting thread, right Heather?????

Gald to hear NJ doesn't corner the market on wacko drivers. I don't even know why they have a speed limit sign posted. Oh, maybe that is the MINIMUM speed here!

Welcome back Brownie!!:)

Hey you guys..:)!

I really missed talking to all of you, during my move! I thought I would burst...from not getting my daily dose of allnurses.com!!

Thanks Debbie, and mattsmom for the warnings. I have heard that scopions like the hide in shoes...but would never have thought about towels..!! So shaking all shoes with toes in, and all towels...and anything else...I can think of...:chuckle!

Debbie..I have seen the sunsets...and they're beautiful, and the sunrises also! You know...since I've been here...I get up every morning I'm off..just to see the sun come up...:).

Thanks fedupnurse for the welcome back...and I'm very glad to be back! I see have I have a lot of catching up to do, and going to spend my day...doing just that!

Oh...and least I forget!! I went over to the hospital this morning...to get my time sheet signed. And guess what??? One of the unit supervisor asked me to think about EXTENDING though the winter!!!! YEAAA! I told her I would...and going to wait until I have at least been here a month, and then decide..:)!!

I also went shopping, and there is a store here where everything is 99 cents... EVERYTHING!! I had a shopping cart full of stuff...:chuckle:!!!

Hey Brownie

I was just thinking yesterday about sending you a PM since I hadn't seen you on for awhile. Glad to see you landed safely and are back with your family here! We missed you! :kiss

Whoaaa...LasVegasRN..are you for real??? I thought you could only get this once????? Did she ever get over the first case?? I always thought that Scarlet fever was on the same level as far as tx as strep throat??? What is her Peds saying??

I'm soo sorry to hear that little Emma's, and you are still having to deal with this nasty Bug:o!! I pray Emma and you will be on your way soon to complete healing, and a return to all things normal for you...

You're right, Brownie - it's a type of strept infection. I hope to GOD she does not have a strain resistant to antibiotics. I hope in 10 days that culture comes back negative. We'll see!

Thank you so much for your good wishes! :kiss

And again, good to see you back home with us!
