I receive my license in Feb. I fill out an application to work at an LTC ,they call me back today and had a brief hiring conversation over the phone. 6 month evaluatoin,19 dollars an hour,2 days of orientation, starting tomorrow and nervous bc it happen so quickly,so Im feared of the unknown of what might happen tomorrow.Im the 3-11 shift and I guess ill be there 30 min early. This is what i been waiting for is to have some experience as an LVN, I hope that I can hang in there here i go (sigh) I know its probably a handfull from what i read on this website and so Ill just act like a sponge and do my best.

I just needed to vent because it needed to come out...LOL

I plan on hanging in there until at least a year hopefully more if its safe for me bc i think im a tuff cookie to pick up things fast.

well !! wish me luck !

Ill talk about what happen tomorrow that for sure.......

I took lots of great note from some of you informative nurses who give out really good notes on different issues

any word of encouragement , will be greatly appreciated

i'm so sorry but, 2 days of orientation???

that is sooooo unacceptable, especially for a brand, new nurse.

just based on a 2 day orientation, i would have refused taking this job.

best of everything to you.

you sound like a very nice person.

don't let anyone take advantage of you.

with peace,

[ OH my god this must be really bad!!!!!!!!!] Have i done the right thing to go forward with this????

Specializes in LTC/SNF, Psychiatric, Pharmaceutical.

That, sadly, is par-for-the-course for LTC. That's how much orientation I received in LTC, and watched many other nurses receive.

I was in 8 WEEKS of training for the job I currently have. Thanks to FDA and German regulations, you are not allowed to do ANYTHING here you have not been signed off for by QA and management, even vital signs. And getting signed off means doing x activity X number of times in the witness of a certified company trainer to acceptable standards. I work in plasma, which is classified as a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, so that's why the stringent regulations.

But still, 2 days of orientation for a job in which you are directly responsible for whether someone may live or die.

Yeah, I thought maybe this was the norm for ltc so thats why im like "OK" Know im thinking i made a big mistake

Specializes in ER/ICU, CCL, EP.

I have been job-hunting in LTC for a PRN job and 2 days of orientation is average, as far as I can tell.

Do you think i should go along with this in your opinion....?:stone

Specializes in LTC, cardiac, ortho rehab.

when i got my first job in ltc, i had one day of orientation. it didnt really seem like an orientation, the nurse i was assigned to just handed me the keys and said "if i were you, i would start my med pass right now." anyways, to make a long story short. its kinda hard in the begining, but you tend to develope a system as you go along and it tends to get a little bit easier.

good luck to you

oh i quit that job after 6 months, then i came back after 6 months and had no orientation at all!!! haha

2 days is the norm for an experienced nurse, but not for a new grad. At any rate LTC orientation leaves a lot to be desired.

If you could do it , them im going for it. This is going to be a very hack of experience .....LOL

I was told that it was the norm 2 days is what they give you, It's so scary now that I have a decision to make tomorrow

Is it possible if i dont get the experience now that I probably wouldnt get the experience of at least the year I need to get other jobs?
