Dec 25, '06If contacting the dean, your adivsor, the registrar.... doesn't work, try the local news station. When our students had a problem with the book store and financial aid the news truck showed up and "SHAZAM" there wasn't a problem any more!
Dec 25, '06You should be burning mad! Have you called other students in your program to see how they are handeling this. If they failed you I presume many others have been failed as well. I tis crazy that someone can do shoddy work, leave for the holiday & you are the one having to take the brunt of this over the holidays.
Dec 25, '06Quote from kitten79I spoke with a classmate (she does-work study at the school and is in the same position as me). I thought because technically she works for the school she might have some insight. According to her only 12 students received incompletes because of missing hesi scores. I dont know if any of the other 10 students receive loans/grants etc.You should be burning mad! Have you called other students in your program to see how they are handeling this. Dec 25, '06Quote from clemmm78HESI'S OWN DEFINITION: HESI is the Health Education Systems Incorporated standardized test that Students take at the end of each course in preparation for the Licensing Exam.Sorry, but what is HESI?
MY DEFINITION: really hard test(s), costs lots of money and you get less than adequate service.
Dec 25, '06If the school doesn't work this out in time to get you into class they have a problem. Getting the scores from the course together and coming up with a final grade by the due date is the schools responsiblity. I think if you review your schools policies it will say something about when the final grades are due. Not having this is a breach of contract on their part.
I can see multiple ways that this breach can cause damage to you, all of which the school will be legally responsible for. If they don't get it worked out in time for you to start I would contact an attorney.
Dec 25, '06I would send a few emails out and then relax. The mistake is not yours and you can bet that they will be scrambling like crazy to correct this mistake once it is discovered. Too bad they have only one day- sucks to be them!! It's their mistake, not yours.
Try not to stress too much and try to recharge- you are on vacation and School is stressful enough without this garbage added to the mix!
Dec 25, '06:imbar Just wanted to say sorry for having a come-apart here. I guess I just needed to vent--anyway thanks to everyone for listening, reading and responding.
Dec 25, '06Don't be sorry! I would have felt the same way and totally flipped out, probably worse than you as I have a tendency to overreact big time.
My best friend would usually be the one telling me that it is someone elses problem, not mine. She has been slowly teaching me to look at things from another perspective and it works like a charm!!
We are all here for you and please please keep us posted!
Dec 25, '06Quote from OhmygoshWhy does the combination of nursing school and rant not seem surprising?!?Oh yes the raw scores did pop up at the end of the test...and the option to print the scores was available. HOWEVER, we are forbidden to print it off on school printers- "this is considered personal use".
About contacting someone: I did call the provost-dean of instruction of the nursing department. I told her who I was and said sooo sorry to call you during the holidays however I am very upset by the letter I received. Basically told her what the letter said cutting through all the fluff crap--she said matter-of-fact --"I dont know anything about financial aid. You recieved an incomplete because we could not get your hesi score. I dont know what else to tell you." [EVIL][/EVIL] I said I understand the problem with hesi -- what I am telling you is the school reopens on the 3rd -- the absolute last day to pay tuition 4th. Without financial aid I have no money to pay tuition. She very sounding very indifferent and cold --"like I said I dont know what else to tell you" ---I so wanted to say --well Merry Dang Christmas to you too along with a few other things. :trout: But I just said well ok --- well thank you for your concern and hung up the phone!
I would have been nice to have a little bit of reassurance-- but no concern at all.
Your administration must run the same school I go to. . . Very frustrating. They've lost tests (not the HESI, but midterms) at my school, too, and since we have no way of proving we took the tests, never mind the score (printing our scores is considered cheating) the faculty/administration response is, "Since you can't prove you took/passed the test, you're out of luck." I've got a good friend who failed the semester because they lost a test worth 1/3 of her grade. This is a 4.0 student, btw.
Anyway, I'm sorry. You are terribly frustrated and angry, and rightfully so. I hope financial aid can end up helping you. Although, they aren't always the easiest to work with either.
Dec 25, '06What is the Hesi? Is it similar to the ATI? We have to take those each semester but we don't pay for them...

Dec 26, '06Dog and Pony show update:
I did some checking on my own and apparently there are many many more students affected by this situation than I was orginally lead to believe.
Looks like about 45 students where sent the same letter. A few of them are even more angry than I ever was.
This situation "bites" for all of us --but atleast I don't feel like the Lone Ranger anymore.
We have all decided to be at the school on the 3rd--waiting for the doors to open---ready to do battle if necessary:smiley_ab
