Hi All

has anyone tried or is currently using the Biopatch or similar for CAD's?

Yes, I've used them frequently. A lot of central line dressing kits now come with the biopatch stocked inside them.

Biopatches are required for cvads where I work. Ours come in a separate spackage. When applying, just remember: "sunny-side up"

Specializes in tele, oncology.

We started using them a while ago, when one of our units hit a 25% infection rate with their lines. As long as the lines are sutured into place with the biopatch in mind, they seem to work well. I haven't seen any numbers yet though to compare our infection rate prior to use vs. after.

They're required for us. Our biopatches are blue on the side that goes up, so I remember "Blew up."

Biopatch is impregnated with Chlorhexadine gluconate that will last for seven days. In studies its use has reduced catheter related blood stream infections. It also comes in different sizes and hole sizes to be used around other medical devices such as an orthopedic pin. 3M the makers of Tegaderm ave just introduced a product with a clear Chlorhexadine patch that is already attached to the transparent dressing. There is also another antimicrobail disk made from silver ions ( I will check into this for you cuz I can not remember exactly).
