Kitty,

I'm no expert, but I gave it a shot. Find a Spanish-speaking person to proof this. Nolensville Road, perhaps? Good luck! Let me know what happens. More info in another PM.

Wow Joy, I can't thank you enough!!!!!! I'm going to start Spanish classes this Fall.... just on an audit level so I have some basic skills.

Anyone have knowledge of pre-made cards that have common med statements that are in both languages? Might be nice to have....

Kitty,

If push comes to shove, get out the Taber's & make your own (in your spare time, of course hee! hee!)! Hey, you could even laminate them, ooooh!

Actually, there are some great books out there that contain nothing but Spanish-English medical translations. I found one in my hospital's medical library.

Please let me know if you find those cards. I might actually part with some of my cash & buy them!

Although I speak fluent spanish I am quite illiterate (can't read or write).

Kind of a shameful thing eh?

I have a Martin's Quick-E Spansih Guide that has English to Spanish words and questions. I bought it, but I've never had the occasion to use it, but it looks like it would be very helpful. I purchased mine through the Nurse's Book Club, but you could probably also buy it from Amazon or any other bookstore.

Thank you Brenda!... I'll have to check out Taber's and Martin's in my long, plentiful spare time ... LOL.

Hey Russell!

Not a shameful thing...I'll bet that, if you had the tools you could read & write in Spanish!

Anyhow, it's how you communicate with the patients that matters, eh? I don't recall writing down anything in Spanish in my nursing notes .

Which reminds me, there's a software program that my facility uses. It's called Micromedex. It has a "Carenotes" system that can provide patient information on a number of medications/illness in both English & Spanish. I've found it useful in providing patient education for Coumadin. I also used it to help teach my malaria patient about his medication...in Spanish! It has diabetic teaching in both languages as well. Perhaps other hospitals out there have this resource. Most of the nurses I work with here are not aware of it yet.

Forgive my rambling...I like to share good news whenever possible!

peace ya'll,

Joy

Hi.,

I am not a nurse, but I am a Spaniard, just wanted to help you with this translation.

Regards,

Juan.
