No, but I received one as part of my IV start module. It literally spent more time talking about hand hygiene than actual psychomotor skills related to venipuncture, advancing the cath, and taping techniques. For those, it referred you to the book....

A DVD came with my lab textbook by Potter/Perry, very informative. It was an actual DVD, sometimes we would watch in lab before performing the task, but we could actually watch them at home too.

When I was in nursing school we used ATI Nclex prep which came with a ton of CDs. They were all incredibly boring and useless to me, though it depends on how you learn.

Most of them aren't so much DVD's are they are Adobe Flash video's put onto a DVD. That is you need to play them on a computer. They won't work in a standalone DVD player. That being said other than some of the supplemental material such as NCLEX style questions the video's on the DVD's aren't of much value. Most of the skills demonstrated in the videos are also demonstrated in videos on youtube for free.

Our school used mynursinglab.com to help teach us skills... it was ok to watch before you perform the skill to get an idea of how it goes, but there is no substitute for good old hands on practice

I think you can find about a million nursing school videos on youtube that do the trick. I wouldn't waste money on something I could get for free.

My school had us purchase the ATI books and DVDs, and in my second year when I was suffering severe insomnia due to stress, I started watching them in my room at night, soon my insomnia was curred.

They also had us use some other type of skills DVDs, I only got the advanced set and they were more Adobe Flash were you could only watch on a computer and these videos were more out of date and showed what not to do. Like other posters have said go to youtube a lot of colleges post their videos online

We had to get the skills DVD's for nursing fundamentals. They weren't bad reasonably informative, we often had them playing in the background on skills days. (nothing tops the ATI videos/DVDs we had, though the "speaker" was more entertaining that educational).

If they weren't included would I have purchased them? Probably not. My funds and other books had DVD's that had some demonstrations on them. These would have been sufficient to see the steps demonstrated (though I found the written/photo instructions in my funds book to be very easy to follow).

I agree, check out you tube. Many of the bona fide videos on You Tube are much better than the DVD packages available at book stores.
