4th of July, no time and half

Gosh, don't you have a book or manual that outlines the dates? Just because management thinks one way doesn't mean it is so if it is oulined otherwise elsewhere...

Yes, the 4th of July is a recognized paid holiday, but it doesn't specify anywhere about if it's considered the "official" holiday on the 4th per se, or the "gov't. recognized holiday" as Monday would be. Will have to inquire further...

They also closed us down for N.Y. Day... used to always be open on that day, but no more. Guess that way they don't have to pay anybody time and a half if noone's working, right? :rolleyes: Sux.

That is not right. Seem like every year our employers try and find a way not to pay for holidays especially the night shift. That is why I don't schedule myself any holidays unless it is required. Cheap orifice employers

Just found out that as far as managment is concerned the Holiday is Monday. So those of us working this evening are doing it for straight time. (insert obsenities here) :angryfire Which means all the people off this weekend are going to picnics and fireworks and coming back tomorrow(Monday) to get time and a half.

That's a bunch of BS! I'd be going off!

We get an extra $2.00 since it's not a "major" holiday like Christmas. But come Monday management will be off, pharmacy will be on a "holiday" schedule, as will radiology, physical therapy, etc. The only full-time departments working that day will be nursing and respiratory. But don't get me started that the hospital is a 24-hour operation, etc. because that's not what this post is about and I'm off anyway. LOL

When I started work 4 years ago, my employer gave NO DIFFERENTIAL for off shifts, and NO HOLIDAY pay! Don't know why in the world I chose to work there. We now get 10% extra for evening shift, 15% for night shift with an addtional 10% on top of that for the weekend (Friday 11pm to Monday 7am). So I don't mind working night shift weekends for about $5 more per hour! And we get time and a half for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. What do all you nurses out there get as far as shift differentials?
