And it was awesome!!!! I have to share....:)

Yes, I know. I'm all shiny and new and enthusiastic, but it was still great!

I only had 2 patients but I was running like crazy the whole day. I technically had 2, but helped my preceptor with the third, who I'd helped with yesterday. I did most things independently, but needed alot of help with charting and the computers in general. There are more things that I'm not doing yet (not dealing with drs at all) and I'm sure theres more that I don't even know I'm not doing.. but as far as direct patient care went, I did the majority of it for my patients today (unless my preceptor was going behind me and doing things I missed, entirely possible, but she didn't mention it if she was!). I still have SO much to learn, but I actually don't feel completely overwhelmed with it yet.. I feel like I will learn it in time. I'm just taking it one day at a time and trying my best. I'm exhausted, my feet are killing me, but I love my job!!

I'm actually excited to go back! So far my preceptor is awesome, and everyone seems very welcoming, friendly, and very very willing to let me become part of the team and help me.

I'm excited and hoping that the learning process goes as smoothly as possible and that I will one day be a great nurse!

I also wanted to add... you know how so many people talk about not eating/drinking/peeing for the whole shift? So not that way here!! I was pleasantly surprised to find that everyone takes breakfast and lunch! We eat in the break room so as to be near in case anything comes up, but it seems like they have a good system, basically we go in 2 different groups. Its been nice to see- everyone helps each other out and looks out for each other!

It's great to hear from an enthusiastic new nurse. Good luck and keep up the great attitude.

I am not anywhere near being a nurse yet but thanks for writing this post. :yeah:

Yay!! I start precepting in the spring. I hope my 1st day is as good as yours!! Good luck and keep up that positive outlook! :yeah:

Congratulations!! I, too, had good initial experiences (orientation assignments) that made me SO glad I had gone through the hell of nursing school and was now a NURSE!

Keep that positive attitude. It will serve you very well when things are not so shiny and there will be assignments in your future that will make you not so happy for that degree . But remember how you feel NOW, and do our profession PROUD!

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

Thanks so much! I've only heard the down side to being a new RN. I knew it was possible to feel like you just expressed! -lol- Take care

& I hope your future is just as exciting.

Cool...Yay for you!

I love when someone posts about the wonderful experience of being a nurse. It gives me great hope and anticipation for when my time comes. Keep that positive energy going.:yeah:
