  1. You are only 21 years old. You have time on your side. I know you don't think you do, but you do. You say you did really well your 1st year of college so you are obviously a good student who is very capable of getting good grades. If you are worried about the grades you got on some courses maybe you can re-take those courses? Sometimes you have to take a few steps back to go forward. At least you seem to have a direction. Some people your age don't. I know I didn't. So keep going, don't let anyone or anything stop you and before you know it you will reach your goal. Even if it takes a little longer it doesn't matter. In 2-4 years you can either be a nurse or you can still be where you are now. That is the great thing about time. It stops for no one. I say this because I am 34 years old and just went back to college. I wont finish until I am almost 40 years old because I have 3 kids and work full-time and can only take a few courses at a time. But I realized that I can either turn 40 and be exactly where I am today which is in a low paying job that threatens lay offs every couple of years:banghead: or I can turn 40 with a whole new life/career in front of me. Either way - I will still turn 40 whether I want to or not. I think you should move in with your uncle if he is closer to the school and closer to a job for you. As far as your Mom, Dont let her bring you down. If anything, use her hurtful words as an incentive to prove her wrong. Good Luck!!
  2. That sucks it didnt work out the way you planned. Can you take a honeymoon vacation within the US? Not sure how much a cruise cost compared to hawaii but maybe you can go there instead? Keep up the positive attitude, it will all work out for you in the end. :icon_hug:
  3. There is something really wrong with that lady and that is scary she is a nurse's aide. It gave me the creeps just reading it.
  4. This might be a stupid question but what is a OT? Never mind I just read the above post so I am guessing it means - Occupational Therapist :-)
  5. I think I will just print this and take it to the nearest best buy and tell the sales guy this here is what I want!
  6. That sounds like a good program, especially since you are guaranteed a spot in the RN program. It is going to take me a couple of years just to get through the pre-req's at my community college and after that I am still not guaranteed into the RN program. Which is harder when you are older because you dont have the time to waste waiting to get in.
  7. Does your LPN program require the pre-req's that a community college RN program does? Or are you going to have to do the pre-req's once you enter the RN program at the community college? How long is your LPN program? Unfortunately, I dont think my community college has anything like that . What is the name of your vocational school?
  8. I think I will get one when I get my income tax next year. My 3 kids are all school age and probably between them and myself it will get a little crowded on my desk top. Plus - I think it would be nice to be able to use it while they are at their soccer practices and while I am on lunch at work..etc.. I will need to take advantage of every available minute.
  9. Pre-Algebra - Saturday morning classes Speech - online Like some of the other poster's on here I have to take it slow. I have 3 kids(hubby works nights and is not a big help with them), and work fulltime.
  10. Thanks for your response's. I have a PC at home but I hear a lot about college students "needing" a laptop! Which of course I cant afford! Good to know it wont be necessary!
  11. Do you think it is necessary to have a laptop to be successful in college?
  12. Have you already done your pre-req's classes? I just started going to my CC taking the pre-req's and I still work during the day(mon-fri). I plan on doing what I can online and do saturday classes. My husband works nights so it is just me and my 3 kids at night. If you have to do pre-req's first maybe you can do those while still working? Then if possible you can save money during that time, so you can have some money to live on while in nursing school? That's what I am hoping to do. But, everyone is different so you have to do what is right for you. Good Luck!
  13. Does the ego deflate when they open their paycheck? :chuckle ps.. no offense to anyone that is a MA -
  14. I am not anywhere near being a nurse yet but thanks for writing this post.
  15. I just want you to know that I know exactly how you feel!! I am 34 and decided last year to go back to school. I also was passed through High School with no teachers or parent to care what my grades were. I remember being in a "normal" Math class and getting a low grade. Instead of trying to give me help they put me in a remedial class and that teacher would let us leave in the middle of the class to go to the library(in reality we left to go to 7/11)! I am not saying it is all the teachers fault. I WISH I had the ambition that I have now because I would have started on a "career" much younger and when I didnt have a husband and 3 children. I did attempt to go to college in my early 20's and when I tool the placement test to see what basic classes I should be in I of course scored very low in Math. I started Basic Math(Passed with an A), took Pre-Algebra(Passed with a B)then went to College level Algebra and it was so fast paced that I got behind very quickly. I remember sitting in this HUGE classroom and being so lost that I just got up walked out and dropped the class immediately! I never stepped foot into another college until last semester and guess what class that was, BASIC MATH ! AGAIN! But, I am determined this time to get over this fear I have of Math. I know it will be hard, but I am tired of this subject being the reason I have held myself back. I plan on getting tutors for when it gets hard and I plan on NOT giving up. Sorry this is so long! Maybe you can take a online Basic Math class through a community college? Good Luck to you and Dont give up!!
