"New Program Seeks to End Nursing Shortage and Improve Real Estate Values in US"

It is dated December 8th, 2008, but it popped up today when I accessed the website.

My how times have changed with respect to property values and the perception of a nursing shortage.

"President Lisa Pamintuan of New York College of Health Professions (www.nycollege.edu) announced today that the institution has signed Letters of Intent to move forward on Joint Programs with XinXiang Medical University and Luo Yang Health School in the People’s Republic of China."

“In particular the Chinese schools are graduating more nurses than they can place within their own country, while the United States has a shortage of nurses."

"We have filed patents on our system of combining our educational programs with real estate development and auxiliary health care to the community as well as developing specific new social communities.”

"The program also has important ancillary benefits as the College expects to create small Chinatown communities in various parts of the country as well as small College towns through the influx of these health care professionals."

Maybe now it's time for China to start recruiting US nurses to work over in Beijing. The whole "import employees" operation has always been a scam to lower corporate payroll, but they could get away with it when the economy was better. Now, with unemployment having shown no signs of improvement since our current president took office, and the economy in tatters, US employees are going to have a harder time believing this scam. But that won't stop it from happening. Six months ago our company sent out a notice that they would pay us essentially a "finder's fee" of several hundred dollars if we can get certain types of healthcare professionals to come here from parts of Asia & India on a work Visa. This is in spite of many, many US healthcare professionals that are out of work. It is a shameful practice.

In my youth the prospect of foreign invasion was terrifyingly linked to the spectre of nuclear war. Today it's being done by peaceful means, but it is nonetheless invasion. Understand, I'm not knocking Chinese people here; they are a remarkably resilient, hardworking nation, but they are taking over the world's economy, and wrecking it by manufacturing pretty well anything for less than it can be made elsewhere.

Remember this; imported staff are willing to work for less than the home-grown variety.

I'm not sure China is to blame for wrecking the world economy. It's surly not the case in the United States. We've made a series of mistakes, had out of control spending and have elected leaders who have generally been careless. Not to mention all the money we are pumping into wars and aide packages to other countries.

We can cry about all the other big bad countries or perhaps realise that we are the ones importing and allowing these things to occur.

This is an interesting thread r/t the fact that in all the threads knocking foreign Nurses (citizen or not) I have never heard of an initiative with China.

This, especially. Far too many factories have closed in my country due to the flood of cheap Asian, predominantly Chinese, imports. More and more people are moving to Asian-built vehicles; Chana, GWM, Mahindra, to name but a few. The effect this has on unemployment has been disastrous.

Chinese did not close any companies in the USA- American owners of those companies did it. And I bet all of the people complainig about influx of cheap goods from overseas love to shop at Walmart. Also, while wars cost tremendous amount of money, foreign aid constitutes 0.16 % of the GDP, and contributes pretty much nothing to the deficit.

I don't get it. In looking at this school's website, it does not appear to offer any programs for nurses -- which I interpret as LPN or RN -- beyond a certificate in holistic health. So who are they educating in China, for what and where?

I saw the same thing in the IT industry.

Now, I'm a student exisiting on odd jobs and my wifes paycheck *kisses*
