Geez, I'm glad I'm not working right now

I was recently diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Not diabetic yet but on the way. My doc told me I need to lose weight and I need to lose it now, so he put me on Meridia. I have been dragging for two days. He told me I should adjust within a week or so; I don't think I've ever had side effects this strong to a med before, except for nausea with narcs. Good thing I'm off work right now, because I don't think I'd be doing my share.

Sue, no it doesn't, it's an appetite suppresant. Constipation rather than diarrhea.

Oh, my, he must be serious, then! You can't get an appetite suppresant for nothin' anymore.

On those things, I'd be as nervous as the proverbial long-tailed cat in a roomful of rockers.

that is a great saying sue, hahahahaha

I was nervous about that too but I've had the opposite effect...drowsiness and lack of energy. Doc said the weight loss can mean the difference between converting to DM within a year versus 10 or more years from now.

It's only been two days but it seems to be working. Little appetite; I'm going to have to be careful about making sure I eat something.

Mac, I'm not unemployed. Paid leave. Insurance doesn't cover Meridia.

Good point...there is still a good chance you qualify for paitient assistance through the drug company. They obviously don't base it on income or anything like that...a lot of time they give patient assistance for drugs that are too old for samples. The lady I mentioned before got Lisinopril, Allegra, and Lexapro all for free!

:)

Okay, I'll check it out.

Mac, that site is confusing. I couldn't figure out where I'm supposed to go.

I wish you well. Of course, the only way to really conquer this problem is to exercise in moderation and to cut food intake, especially of carbohydrates, refined sugars, and fats.

Thank you so much, Trudy

Hi Tazzi - my dh has metabolic syndrome. He is diabetic, has high bp and high cholesterol. He is on metformin, lipitor, lisinipril. His bp and cholesterol and bs are better.

But he has worked on losing weight and amping up the exercise - hard to do when you drive a truck.

I never thought of an appetite suppressant . . . .hmmmm . . . have to ask the doc.

He has lost 25 pounds but he still has that tummy - and an appetite.
