GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!

Published

Hello GCU summer applicants!

I figured someone else would have started a thread by now, but since they haven't I figured I would since the deadline is approaching in less than 2 weeks! I just wanted to know how everyone's application experience is going so far? Hopefully we can answer each others questions and this thread can serve as a place to share experiences especially while waiting for decisions.

I have my background check completed, my fingerprinting is in process, and I'm taking the HESI this week. I am super nervous!

I can't wait to hear from any of you who are applying! Don't be shy :) and good luck everyone!

For those of you who took the HESI at GCU and at the Maricopa schools, how do they differ? Is either one harder than the other? I took the HESI at GCU and didn't do well in the math portion since its been 2 years since I had math. I'm taking the Maricopa HESI on Friday and I'm a little worried

I took the HESI at Maricopa schools and the math I saw was simple fraction, decimal, conversation, and ratio (i saw a lot of ratios on my test) but over all it wasn't to bad.

That's really nerve wrecking :/ I have around the same gpa... How many spots are there usually for St. Joes?

For St. Joe's on their website it says they have 24 spots, but from what I heard on allnurses, last spring they only had 30ish finish their applications for St. Joe's so that is like and 80% acceptance rate?

segrace crazy huh? I thought so too with those scores and GPA. I was told it was a very competitive batch and that I should retake my anatomy 202 since it was the one science class I had a C in and it dragged down my science GPA (it's the C that haunted me throughout the application process lol!). I'm actually retaking the class now even though I don't have to, to prove to myself I can get better than a C!

The HESI for GCU and Maricopa is given by the same company, so it's pretty much the same. I took it at both and it was pretty consistant. Like the person above said the math was heavily fractions, ratios, and there were some of the conversions in it. If you are stressed I suggest getting the study guide to brush up. Math is my weakest area and I was able to get an 80% on it and I think it is due to the study guide and constantly reviewing.

jsweet14 I tried replying to your pm, but I can't send pm's yet since I haven't posted enough replies. If you want I can email you with the answers to the questions.

Ya math was my weakest area. I got a 78% :/ fractions are the WORST! Ugh. I need to be constantly doing math daily for it to not leave my brain lol. I'm getting the study guide today!

I do really well in math but for some reason fractions have always been my down fall, but I found some youtube videos to be very helpful when I was studying for the HESI.

Oh awesome! I will check those out

Does anyone know how many spots and applicants there are usually for AT Still

What is AT Still? Lol I've been wondering since you first posted it

Sorry to hear about the setback many of you are talking about. There are other options for us nurses. I am currently a nursing student at Brookline College and would definitely recommend the program to anyone who is interested in a career in nursing and wants to attend a high-quality program. The program is academically challenging and pushes me to assess and analyze the big picture of a patient's overall health status, not simply the issue or symptom that seems most obvious. With one semester remaining, I am confident that by the time I get my BSN degree, I will be prepared to pass NCLEX and join the work force as a great entry-level RN!
