Hello GCU summer applicants!
I figured someone else would have started a thread by now, but since they haven't I figured I would since the deadline is approaching in less than 2 weeks! I just wanted to know how everyone's application experience is going so far? Hopefully we can answer each others questions and this thread can serve as a place to share experiences especially while waiting for decisions.
I have my background check completed, my fingerprinting is in process, and I'm taking the HESI this week. I am super nervous!
I can't wait to hear from any of you who are applying! Don't be shy :) and good luck everyone!
I am also a current GCU student at the Boswell campus. I have heard NOTHING about getting rid of the BSN program at our location, or any of the satellite locations. One of my professors spoke to us today about not accepting any new level ones for the summer. She stated that they are currently in the process of hiring new staff and clinical instructors and improving the curriculum. She also said that there will be a new group of fast track level one students this fall. I completely disagree with how GCU has handled the situation with the summer applicants and I couldn't imagine being in your shoes Despite the chaos, I love GCU's nursing program and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I wish you all the best of luck; we're all going to make amazing nursing someday soon :)
I have been reading this thread the past few days and can't believe it! I looked into GCU over a year ago before I chose CEP and the main reason I passed on them was the cost. When I calculated an estimate is was close to $60,000 which is outrageous. Perhaps it is different now? If not I will offer this word of advice as someone who has two previous college degrees.... don't accumulate more student loans than your expected yearly salary. This is a good rule of thumb. Having less than that is even better. I am paying loans on my first degrees from ASU and am now changing careers so I had to be mindful of not piling on more debt. If you already have student loans I would really think long and hard if GCU's accelerated program is worth the debt. 2 years for the NAU CEP is approx $13,000 for the whole program (includes the CC portion) which I think is much more reasonable.
I am very sorry that you all were put through this by GCU. I know how stressful it is to pursue nursing with all the prereqs and anticipation of getting into a program. I hope they make this right by all of you but if not, consider the CEP! It's an excellent program whether you do NAU, ASU, or UIU. Majority of the community college nursing programs have an excellent reputation as well.
Good luck and hang in there!!
Edited: I forgot to add I was accepted into the NAU CEP and will start this summer. If you have any questions about the program, process, or prereqs feel free to PM me!
Congrats on being accepted! I'm hoping to start CEP with NAU for the fall. About GCU's cost, I was quoted around $29K and that was before any scholarships. But that's still way more than CEP! I already have $11K in student loans because I was charged as an out of state student for my first year here in AZ. Lame but I didn't want to stall for a year. So I sucked it up and paid Estrella 5K for classes each semester ($387 per credit! Crazy!!)
They addressed this rumor with us a couple weeks ago and its not true, they are actually trying to expand in Tucson. But as far as the non-profit means a school like UofA or ASU..... and chamberlain and GCU are considered for profit schools "private". AKA it will be cheaper in a couple years LOL. But i know they lost a lot of staff with the transition and they have be struggling to adjust everything since last fall.
@ScrubGirl88 I have heard from MANY sources at the school including the school administration, that they are planning on closing the satellite campuses starting in the Spring. That would make total sense if they were trying to become non-profit like you say. Less spots = more competition = more selective = non-profit school. I was wondering why a FOR PROFIT school would close down the campuses, but a NON PROFIT makes total sense to me.

They told us it would be the same criteria for fall and now they are changing it so all the satellite campuses are RN-BSN or at least that's how it appears on the website..... I would love to say I am shocked by yet another lie from GCU but I am not at all. @scrubgirl88 it's not about not getting in it's about the fact that they have lied to us through the entire process.
