GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!

Hello GCU summer applicants!

I figured someone else would have started a thread by now, but since they haven't I figured I would since the deadline is approaching in less than 2 weeks! I just wanted to know how everyone's application experience is going so far? Hopefully we can answer each others questions and this thread can serve as a place to share experiences especially while waiting for decisions.

I have my background check completed, my fingerprinting is in process, and I'm taking the HESI this week. I am super nervous!

I can't wait to hear from any of you who are applying! Don't be shy :) and good luck everyone!

My friends currently in the GCU nursing program told me to go somewhere else if I can. They said so far it hasn't been great but this past semester has been a total NIGHTMARE. They started in the Fall. There are so many rumors about them losing accreditation and not getting clinical spots. GCU isn't telling them anything and being so vague like they were with us. It just seem like total chaos. I still want to do the 16 month program but it kind of makes me worried for my future. Can they close a program in the middle of our schooling?

Segrace probably with the threat of getting sued which might be something they find more doable than getting their programs fixed. Happened to an online college I worked for. I got settlement paperwork in the mail stating that I had a right to get my money back had I gone to school there because they went bankrupt.

Yeah from what I have heard (I don't know how accurate it is) if a school losses its accreditation while you are in the program you would pretty much have to start over unless another school accepted the classes you had already taken.... A 16 month program would be nice but not if there is a chance of it not being accredited. I have also heard several rumors about them possibly losing their accreditation. It doesn't seem like a risk worth taking unfortunately :(

Manda30, i'm shocked you got wait listed with those scores! Those are really good! Congrats on getting into the CEP program though! I'm currently looking into it the mesa/asu program. Is that your overall gpa or pre req gpa if you don't mind me asking?

That is my pre req gpa. I believe that all they go off of for the CEP is the pre req gpa, but I am not 100% sure.

Each university uses different classes for the gpa. The brochures on nursing.maricopa.edu under the concurrent section tells you which classes they use for the gpa. Hope this helps 😊

Ok just did a quick check and they do only go off of the pre req GPA. If you go onto the Maricopa Nursing website under the CEP tab it has all the universites they partner with and they have what classes are factored into the acceptance. They told us at the information session that its a point system that they factor the applications off of. So you get so many points for your HESI scores and so many points for you GPA. The higher the points the better the chance of getting in and getting your first choice.

Hey Manda, what was your gpa and HESI score for GCU if you don't mind me asking? :) And what campus did you apply for?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I applied for St. Joes. My gpa was pretty much the same when I applied for gcu and my hesi was a 80% in math, 95% in English and 85% in the science. I took a higher level math and got a better grade so it raised my gpa a little.

Ah okay I see, thank you.

I am applying to AT Still with a 3.57 and hoping to get in the 90's on the HESI but we shall see... :/

You basically had over a 3.6 GPA and a 90 on your HESI and didn't get in for the Spring? Wowwww that is crazy! I have seen many people with lower stats than that get in. Especially to the satellite campuses. They must have made some sort of mistake. Did you ask them why or how you could improve your app?
