Just thought I would start a new thread about Galen. Anything and everything Galen can be posted here! Please feel free to share, or ask questions!

I am still waiting on my acceptance letter, and am going crazy:bugeyes:! Hopefully, I will be starting July 27th.:yeah:

Hi Parrothead!:yeah:

Don't worry, there will be plenty of people our age! I am 34 and my husband is 40 and we are also starting the July day class! I am really getting excited about starting classes! I know it's going to be a lot of work, but I am looking forward to it!

Welcome INparrothead! I'm a closet parrothead by-the-way:D. A few of us have decided to get together on June 6th at 5:00 at Mike Linnig's . You should join us. I think it will help ease the transition going into nursing school. It's nice to have a friend going in, ya know. Oh, and I'm 35. I think most of us posting on this thread are in their 30's and 40's.:bdyhdclp:

preemiemama we have issues when it comes to these smilies!:lol_hitti:rckn:

Thank you, slmcdo! I'm so glad I finally got my letter!! Welcome INparrothead!!!:D Everyone, I won't be able to go Saturday June 6th either because I will be out of town. I'm sorry! I definitely can't wait to meet you all though! Also, I got my orientation situation taken care of. Angie told me that since I already have a vacation planned for the same weekend as orientation that I can just call her when I get back and she will meet with me one on one. I can't get ahold of Jessica Hasken to make my financial aid appointment. The deadline is June 4th!! I've called her three times and emailed her once since Wednesday. She hasn't returned my calls or my email. I don't know what I should do since we have to have this done by this Thursday!!! What do you all suggest that I do?? I'm sorry that I'm always full of questions and worry...lol!!

lasdrs I think I would call again a few times on Monday. If you don't get her maybe you should tell whoever answers the phone your situation. They really seem to be helpful whenever I have called.

You are going to worry yourself sick.:barf02:

Thank you, michelleb! I've just been calling Jessica's direct phone line, but if she still doesn't answer on Monday, then I'll call the school and tell whoever answers. Yes, I am going to worry myself sick...haha!! Have a great night! :)

When I spoke with Jessica, she told me she was going to be out of town this week. I'm sure you'll be able to get in touch with her Monday. No worries!

Thank you so much for the information, preemiemama!! That explains why she hasn't returned my calls or email then...haha! I will call her first thing Monday morning. Do any of you suggest a good lender to go through for the student loans? I already have some previous student loans through Sallie Mae. Do you think I should just go with them or is one of the other lenders to choose from better?

Hi everyone! I am glad to hear that Jessica is out of town this week, because I have been sending her emails and I thought that she was just ignoring me! How is everyone doing? So are you all still going to Mike Linnigs? My husband and I went there last night. We might go if anyone is still going. I saw that some of you won't be able to. How is everyone doing with all of the medical paperwork? Neither one of us can find our childhood immunization records, so we have to get all of the shots. We can get the titers, but they are sooooo expensive!

We found a place to get the immunizations and TB tests for $5 so we are just going to go ahead and get the shots again.

Just to let you all know, if any of you are having trouble getting everything done by the deadline; Angie Metten will work with you . I spoke to her on Wednesday and she said that as long as you did the first step of each set of boosters and TB test, then it was fine. The main thing is having it all done before clinicals start.

Talk to you guys later:yeah::specs:

Hi everyone. I had a few questions for you all. What is the exact cost of tuition at Galen for the RN program? Do any of you already hold a BA or BS? If so, why did you choose Galen over the accelerated programs at UL, Bellarmine, or Spalding? Does anyone know how much assistance the school offers as far as job placement goes?

Hi careerchanger. I believe that all of us are new to nursing and starting the first year in the LPN program. Then we will do another 15 months for the RN program. The tuition for the first year is around $16,000 and for the RN program is around $20,000. I can only speak for myself, but I am going to Galen because you don't have to have any prerequisites. Personally, I have the prerequesites, but my husband doesn't and we are going to do the program together. When I get into the RN program I will be able to cut out some of the classes and save some money. I considered U of L, since I was already a student there. Originally, I was pre-med, but I changed my mind and decided to go with nursing. See, I wanted to be an Anesthesiologist. I have decided to eventually be an Anesthesia nurse, since they are currently making around $140-$150k. The problem with U of L is that

they accept alot of people into the lower level nursing program, but then it is nearly impossible to get into the

higher level nursing classes. Some people have to wait 2 years in between levels. I have had alot of people tell me that they gave up and decided to go to Galen and get their RN over with. As far as U of L's accelerated program, that is for people who are already RN's, trying to get their BSN. All of us are just starting out and still have to get our LPN first. I personally plan on going to Galen and then getting to work. After that I am going to do University of Phoenix's or IUS's online RN to BSN one year program. Eventually, I will have to go to a 3 year program to be a CRNA; Anesthesia Nurse. That will be much further down the road though!

Not to mention, that Galen is an excellent school! I have heard very good things about Galen from people who work at the hospitals in Louisville. From what I hear, the Galen students are the best and most equipped in clinicals.

I hope that I have answered your questions!

Hey y'all!! I hope everyone had a good weekend!! INparrothead, no worries. I am 43 and starting over!! Hope to see u at Mike Linnings on the 6th!!
