GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!

Published

Hey All,

I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.:banghead:

Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.

I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead::banghead: :banghead:

I thought he was being sarcastic also because I was under the impression the he is an EC alumni/student.

Same here ... when I first read his post, I was like, GRRRRR. LOL. Then I said hey, wait ... I remember interacting with him here, and isn't he an EC student? The internet is such an imperfect communication medium ... :D

I contacted the Governors office as he is the one that appointed him. I let him know that his appointed board was responsible for halting the careet paths of hundreds of voters and taxpayers. In addition I let him know that those hundreds or thousands would be happy to hold him and his politcal party accountable during the next election.

I will be in Macon. My employer, a state agency, is furious with the discision and have told me I would attend whether I was planning on going or not.

Good job!!! :D

I SPOKE WITH GBON AGAIN AND ASKED IF I AM A RN IN ANOTHER STATE AND WORKING CLINCAL HOURS, I STILL CAN NOT GET ENDORSEMENT BECAUSE I WENT THROUGH EC? YES WAS THE ANSWER, THEN I ASKED SO EVEN IF I HAVE HAD MY RN FOR A WHILE ,OF COURSE WORKING, I STILL CAN NOT DO IT? YES THAT IS CORRECT, YOU KNOW WHAT EVERYBODY, I AM TIRED OF GEORGIA ANYWAY WITH THERE STUPID LAWS. ALOT OF TIMES IT IS WHO YOU KNOW NOT WHAT YOU KNOW FOR A JOB I RATHER WORK OUT OF STATE I WAS TOLD THAT AS LONG AS YOU ARE A LPN YOU CAN SIT FOR FLORIDA BOARDS WITH NO PROBLEM INFO FROM FBON. AND YOU MAKE MORE. GEORGIA WILL LOOSE A LOT OF GOOD NURSES IF THIS STAND WITH NO RESOLUTION:down:

Posters on EC's EPN have brought up that this new law means that foreign educated nurses now have a much smoother path to licensure in GA than those of us who have gone to school, worked hard, been consumers and paid taxes right here in GA and the US. Might be a good point to work into your letters (in a tactful way of course!)

I live in NY where EC is and I must say that I'm so sorry to hear of this. I feel for all the nurses who are going through EC and can't get licensed there. I hope and pray things work out for you all. Is moving out of GA the only option at this point?

I hope it's not because that would mean uprooting my dh and child and leaving both our families behind. We were both born and raised here, it's so unfair if relocating is the case.

Is there a VA hospital anywhere near you? EC grads can work at the VA in ANY state.

Closest VA hospital is in Lake City, FL I believe. That's about 2 or more hours away from here. I guess there would be the option of working in nearby Kings Bay but that's only if they have openings. Either way, it's a battle.

I know it sounds frustrating. You may have to do that if you don't want to relocate.

For the record, does this means that GA will not accept EC grads as travel nurses in their facilities unless it's in the VA?

thank you

Sorry about the spelling errors, but I was too mad to keep my fingers in the correct spot on the keyboard.
