GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!

Published

Hey All,

I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.:banghead:

Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.

I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead::banghead: :banghead:

Who did you speak to in setting it up. I'm still waiting on the lady to complete my paperwork so I can send it to the board, they meet next week. Also, is there a fee as I've been hearing?

I spoke with Sherry Haizlip. She said there would be a feee but hasnt told me exactly what it would be. I only have to do peds and obgyn there. I did med surg and psych at other facilities

Hello all,

I have been reading this thread and I have a few questions and concerns and I just wanted to make sure I have my information correct. I am interested in attending a program for respiratory therapy in the Spring quarter of 2010. If I decide that I want to become a registered nurse through Excelsior and complete that program I would have to pay a fee, apply to take the NCLEX, and then set up my own preceptor hours? Is this correct? Does anyone know what hospitals in the Metro Atlanta area allow this? The preceptor time is unpaid, correct? Can someone who has experience with this please give me some insight. Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, the governor signed into law that will not allow Respiratory therapists to complete the program in GA. Most other states allow RT's to complete the program. If you really want to become a nurse, just go to nursing school. Respiratory is a great field as I am one also but I should have gone into nursing right out of school. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks for the info! It helped me a great deal! I will let you know if I have anymore questions. Have a great weekend!

Does anyone have current info as to preceptor sites for GA Excelsior grads?

California does not accept from this school either. I think the school should be responsible and meet the requirement of all state BONs. All other schools do. I think its pretty messed up to bust your butt in school and be restricted to entire states to which you can not practice.

Anyone out there who is currently or soon to do preceptorship for EC? I live in Georgia and I have 12 yrs as LPN but the BON only wants to accept a certain job where I worked less than a year. I am frustrated passed nclex months ago.

Isn't it worth working in a gov facility or another state just to get the exp. and then apply to GA BON. I live in ga as well and hope to be finished EC by Nov 10. Go to the VA hospital. Without exp as a RN you will start out with 30,000. yr. If you have 52 weeks of exp you will start out with over 50,000. a year. I wish you well.

yes, but I have passed the boards in Georgia which will not issue me a License not even a temp license. So, I cant work here in the VA. Until I work in Macon, Georgia because no other hospital that accepts us unless employed with them already.Macon is too far to travel for me, I have small kids in daycare and no family. EC should help those who are stuck and can't go to Macon by finding us somewhere in atlanta to do the additional clinical hours since this was not part of the original agreement made for their program. I am very unhappy with it all. I am still waiting.

Resiak1, have you contacted the law firm in Atlanta, RobbinsFreed, that EC has hired to represent the GA students? Phone no. for RobbinsFreed Law is 678-701-9381, contacts are Josh Belinfante (attorney) or Tenitra Adams(paralegal). EC is paying this law firm to assist all of EC's GA students obtain RN licensure. You can go to EC's website and download the law firm's questionnaire that you need to fill out and fax to the law firm. One of my friends is an EC grad who now has her GA RN licensure after this law firm assisted her. Best wishes to you.:nurse::twocents::twocents:
