Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon Kim
Me too... I graduated less than two weeks ago so I am completely fresh off school. If I do get accepted I can't go to ods until I pass my boards obviously... I really hope that doesn't disqualify me haha. What have you heard about new grads chances? My recruiter says they DA new grads but the captain I interviewed with really made it seem like new grads have no chance! He was kind of rude, but turns out he gave me a high score on my interview. I was confused with his motives and actions.
I do hear that it is harder for new grads but not impossible. If the navy needs positions to be filled this fiscal year then they will fill them. Almost all the DA from last year that got accepted were new grads according to my recruiter so there is hope. I am happy the captain give u high score and don't let him discourage u, he doesn't really know what the Big Navy is looking for this fiscal year unless he will be on those boards.
Hey I have been wanting to talk to a recruiter to get my questions answered and possibly starting the whole process. I noticed someone is from Baltimore and Virginia. Can you tell me who you're recruiter is? I have been trying to contact the medical recruiter in Pennsylvania, leaving messages since last October and still have not received a call back. It's been very aggravating. One of my clinical instructors from my program is a former Navy Nurse and she tried to help me out but no luck. Any recommendations or ideas?
At this point I think you need to do all you can to get a hold of that medical recruiter ASAP. If you're in nursing school still you can apply for ncp if youqrw close to graduating or have already graduated you need to start the process ASAP to be considered for direct accession since the application period starts in October and fills up very quickly.
Nope. I have been trying to contact my recruiter all day to see if he received all my work references, but the line has been busy all day. The last I spoke with him, he told me that with having to until 10/1 to send things off to the PM, he wouldn't be surprised to find out until the new FY. He said he guesses sometime between the 15-25, but it's just what he assumes. Anything new on your front?
I just graduated in May and because I haven't heard anything I've accepted a job, but hoping when my contract ends to join. I am actually from Baltimore, but both the website and the mailing I got said that my closest medical recruiter is in Philadelphia. That is the number I have been trying to reach, leaving messages and never hearing back. Are you talking to that person or is there one closer?

Malenurse, awesome! Are you applying as a new grad? When you turned in your kit? How long did it take before the processors and project manager take to approve it to be "board ready?"
