Knew a guy in the army whose first name was H. Just the letter, H. We called him hache (spanish for the letter H). Also knew a guy in highschool whose first name was Major, and he had two brothers named Lieutenant and Captain. The father was military.
When naming our youngest wife and I decided that I would name a boy and her if a girl. Baby is a girl and she wanted to name her after a game character she made up... Xaliktina. I sucked in a deep breath, scrunched up my face and gave a firm "Veto". Unique names are one thing, but sometimes people dont stop to think....

Aw, my great-grandfather's name was Major. It was an Ellis Island Americanization of (something like) Meier.

wow this thread has me cracking up, I'm a triplet and I'm so glad my mom didn't name us with something like Kerri, Kari, and Kyrie or something like that, lol, although we were baby A, B, and C for the first few days.

"player" not sure if it was "play-ah" (gangster style) or "player" (more refined).... I loved how professional the nurse was "whats that baby's name? oh yeah, player...hi player". With a straight face and everything!

Oh, my--some of these replies are just making me laugh until I cry. Nobody can work in a nursery for very long without taking care of some really stupendous names.
My past favorites have been--Hernaciona (father was Herman, Mother not sure, Auntie possibly was Fiona)
D'iChi'Onicee (with an accent on the last e) which was supposed to be some Swahili blessing. I never could pronounce that one right--or possibly spell it right. --and she and Hernaciona were in the same room at the same time!
Marquis De Sean (which always reminded me of Marquis de Sade)
Pleasure Velvet (can he work in any other profession than pimp?)
God of the Universe and Master of the Universe, who are brothers and still come into the hospital on occasion for clinic appointments and ER visits.

I was once helping register children for a health faire put on by the local children's museum and a mom came up with three girls. Their names were Brandy, Sherry and Korvasay. I had to ask for the spelling of the last one, which was pronounced like the brandy Courvoisier, but not spelled like it! We know what she was drinking when she concieved.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet...but does anyone else notice a trend in combining the Mother and Father's name to make baby's name? This is unreal to me. The first one we had was,
Hermeliz
Dad: Herman
Mom: Elizabeth
Just awful! There have been a couple more although I can't seem to remember them at the moment.
Is anyone else noticing this trend?

I have definitely noticed a trend in combining parents names. One of the most odd ones I think I have seen was a baby girl named Charzel (Charlie & Hazel).
Some recent additions I have seen:
-one family if they had a boy were going to name him Spike Mega...luckily they ended up with a girl and named her Ember Rain.
-Karyzma
-Zuli (girl)
-Akirie (girl)
-Kazabry (girl)
-& right after the election we had twins, a girl & a boy : Chosen Barack & Cherish Michelle
