Greetings. I wanted to know if someone had an example of a full time online instructor schedule. I am researching some opportunities. I would like to know what a typical day looks like for FT instructors. Thanks

I teach online full time. I usually have two courses during the Summer (they run just 8 weeks) and then I carry 3-4 online classes during each semester which is 16 weeks. Each class varies in enrollment but 25 in each is pretty typical. I also participate in my university's committees as well as some school of nursing committees throughout the school year.

Looks as though you have a wealth of online teaching experience! Kudos! Would you mind if PM you?

Do you do live instruction via video? Do you do lectures or use material prepared by the university. I earned my BSN online and it seem like the school provides the lecture and the individual instructors guided discussion board discussions and graded papers. I’m considering looking for that type of job but I don’t have a MSN. I have 5 years experience as clinical instructor for a LPN program. Do you think I would qualify?

I wanna do this! Any advice to someone that has no teaching experience only patients, precepting and mentoring new floor nurses?

Honestly, you just need to apply. With that said, you should have at least one tier higher degree (or equal, not lesser) than what you are teaching. I teach in undergrad programs, but I do teach a few grad level core courses with my MSN. Being an RN with loads of clinical experience (plus you teach patients every day!) is great for teaching nursing students. You just need to show interest. Having someone you know at the school helps a lot, too.

No, I don't teach live at all. I don't lecture at all. I do create courses, but I didn't in the beginning. Most courses are already built and then you change due dates and sometimes assignments if you feel inclined. I facilitate many discussion boards, answer student emails, grade papers and other assignments. You could possibly teach in a BSN program if you were pursuing your master's. But, you absolutely could teach in an LPN program. If you are a clinical instructor, you absolutely could be a classroom instructor. Talk with your dean or associate dean.

I’m really interested in this kind of work. I’m discouraged my job postings that say I need a MSN. One said to submit a video tour of a course I created. I’m not sure if my current online clinical course if something I created. I follow school guidelines and assign case studies. I’ve been using case studies written by other people and sometimes I  modify the assignment. My students are LPN and some have no college background and I find that some assignment questions are too open ended. In one case study a question was how would you know if the patient is improving and the student answered “I would ask them”.  Another asked about discharge teaching and the student wrote to tell them to take their medicine and call the doctor if they don’t feel better. I was looking for more specific and detailed  answers.

That is so neat, I am gonna keep looking for a course facilitator online.

In my MSN program completed my practicum as a TA facilitating an online class. WOW!....some students honestly had never even opened the APA book nor read the simple APA free guideline given before class started. I had students honestly sending PDF files as one example. BUT with all those negatives, I would do it all over again vs dealing with real live patients (J/K, LOL).

I am retired but would like to get back into teaching. I have some online teaching experience. May I ask what state your college is in?
