Ft. Knox, Louisville LPN pay, work ??'s

Just to let you know- Ft. Knox is not in the Louisville area. It is a commutable distance away, though. You might want to consider Lexington- it's closer.

When I was a LPN, I was making $12/hr (yuck) as an experienced acute care nurse in Louisville. I think the going rate is somewhere between $10 and $12/hr. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

i didn't realize that lexington was closer to ft. knox...hmmm...so it the 12 for LTC? or hospital...kinda low pay WOW didn't realize that! is there a VA hospital clost? my best bet may be to try to work on the base, thanks!

I believe Lexington is cloer, if I remember correctly. There's always Elizabethtown (E-town), too- it's the closest town to Ft. Knox, and they have a very small hospital (Hardin Memorial). Lots of nursing homes in E-town as well. I don't know what the nursing homes pay in the more rural areas, but the cost of living in KY is pretty low.

I think only Louisville and Lexington have VA hospitals in KY.

Actually, Louisville is about 40 minutes from Ft Knox, Lexington is about 2 hours.

Opportunities exist on base at Ireland Army Community Hospital, as well as the previously mentioned Elizabethtown area.

The town immediately south of Knox is Radcliff, no medical hospital -- but a fine private mental health/CD hospital locally. I have done PRN work there (before RN, as a mental health tech) and I enjoyed it thoroughly. They use a lot of LPNs and it looks like a sweet gig compared to the long term care facility work in which many local LPNs are employed.

The behavioral health hospital is called Lincoln Trail Hospital and they have a website, if you are interested do a Yahoo search (I don't know their http://)

Hey all, i am currently in LPN school and will graduate in Dec, but my hubby is in the Army and there is a good chance we will be relocating to Ft. Knox area. I was wondering what the rate of pay is there for LPN's as well as good places to look for work in the surrounding area's. Also what LPN to RN transition programs are availible in that area. Any info would be appreciated! thanks so much!

If you are not set on a Louisville school...you might want to check out Elizabethtown Community College. They have an excellent nsg. program!!!! Also you don't have to sell the farm to pay for school! :lol2:

LOL, my hubby and i actually got married in E-town during his family weekend (he's in the army) but i had not realized that there was a college there...i was only there twice, two different weekends and only drove to Ft. knox and then back to the hotel...can anyone give me an idea of pay for LPN's and RN's there? i will defiently look into their program, do they ahve a transition program as well?! thanks again for all the info...looks like we may be "picking' knox after all...lol..that's if the army doesn't change it's mind again!

Here is the addy for E-Town Community College.You can check about the bridge program. It is very hard to get in here, and there is no wating list. Entrance is based on your GPA, & NLN score. I think the pay for RN's (new grads) around the Louisville area is around $18-$19.00. I live farther south & I am starting out at $17.50 + 13% shift diff. Good Luck!
