FSW spring 2017

Published

Anybody applying for the nursing program at FSW for the spring in 2017? I plan to take my TEAS sometime August or September, does anyone know what the passing score is? And have you finished all your prerequisites and general ed? The only prereqs I have left to do is A&P2, nutrition, and micro. But still have all the general eds left to do. But you don't have to have all the general eds finished before applying right? Sorry, I'm new at this.

All I'm waiting for is my immunizations and blood work to come back. So far I've purchased the textbooks and ATI (I'm so broke now lol). I have also finished the modules, purchased my uniforms and lab-coat, I turned in my receipt of proof for the ATI, thankfully I already had my BLS card, signed up for classes, and all the other little things we had to do in order to complete everything.

I thought the first orientation video was something interesting. I know the program is not easy WHAM! what a first video for our orientation haha.

How did you get ATI?

The ATI is purchased at the bookstore. You buy it and you give a copy of the receipt to your campus person (Mine is Edna). ATI sends them the code to give to you I believe.

Oh my gosh I know right? That first video I was just like woah! Way to scare us before we even start!

thanks again for your answers! :) So is it correct that some weeks it's 4 days a week because of simulation ? Or do you not have clinical that week when that happens? also you mentioned that days may change in regards to needing flexibility at work. Did you find this happened a lot ?

Thank you for offering to answer questions for us! :) Which campus do you attended ?

for both of you: did you need to carry ALL of your books every class/clinical??

Charlotte campus.

For practicum, you will only need to pack your Clinical Nursing Skills book. Be sure to watch any videos that are posted online before class and to print off any skills checkoff sheets that you need to. You'll be prepared and have a better understanding of what to expect when you do show up for class.

For concepts, there will be days where you might want to pack both of your books. However, if you do read ahead and print off any power points you have for class, you won't really need to pack your books. I would however pack a laptop if you have one. Those come in handy when you need to look up information in class. Follow your syllabus and try to make a general outline of what you will need to focus on for each exam.

As for clinical, we were never required to pack any books. I would suggest investing your money into a small clipboard that you can fold up and shove into one of your pockets.

For Solus, is there any other books or study materials that you had bought that helps reinforce some of the learning done in class? I want to buy other books to help me retain some information but I don't know what books are good.

Personally, I found the ATI eBooks to be rather helpful. I believe these come as some sort of package or bundle deal with ATI so you don't need to worry about purchasing these books individually.

A former student had advised me to check out Pharmacology made Incredibly Easy! but I never got around to it. Might be worth checking into if you have extra time on your hands.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any other books or study materials that I could recommend to anyone. Most study guides appear to be geared towards the NCLEX rather than Fundamentals.

The next best thing you could possibly do is create your own study guide. I suggest finding a group of students who will help divide and conquer all the modules that your class will be tested on for each exam. And in the end, you will have put together a huge final study guide for the final exam.

Thank you so much for answering me! It's actually a relief hearing about the ATI thing comes with the bundle. I know rachel97x3 from high school so at least we have each other to get together and study. We were talking about it the other day and were gonna get a few other students from our campus to try and do a group study for tests and such. I feel like group studying helps quite a lot for me because I like hearing everyone's reasoning on how or why certain answers are correct and ways to remember them.

I like the way you think! I also suggest creating a FB group page for your cohorts if no one has taken the liberty to do so yet. We have utilized this to keep in touch about up coming events, assignments, and so on.

The sooner you and your classmates come together as a functional unit the better.

Oh that's a really good idea! I'm actually going to make a Collier campus group on FB right now. Of course I have to wait until I start school though to add everyone.

If you have Sim you don't have clinical. When it comes to books I never carried any books because I used the etexts. You just go to pearsonetext.com and log in with your my nursing lab info. Oh and just a heads up we just found out we need to spend another $500 on online programs for our next semester and $350 for the third.

Are you kidding me??? That's insanity that there is still expense on top of the 1600+ Even worse for you guys finding out with this short of notice.

I'm a huge fan of the ebooks so it's great to know that's an option.

I snooped around the files in the nursing colloquium and found the schedules they posted for you guys for Fall. It still shows a scheduled clinical day ( or a CRD) the weeks there is a sim...that's what made me ask. We're those schedules changed later? I'm mainly curious because of work.

Thanks again for answering!
