FSW Nursing Spring 2016

Published

Formerly Edison state college.

Who is planning to enroll in the nursing program for Spring 2016?

So who is joining me? It's going to be a long process and I simply can not wait to get into the nursing program.

I hope to apply into Lee and get. I haven't taken my HESI yet out of nerves, but have to swallow that pill soon in order to apply.

By waiting to purchase your stethoscope you might be able to pick one up on sale after the holiday. I have a Littman stethoscope but not the cardiology III. Physicians that I've worked with have had them so I've used them and the acoustic quality in the III is much better for sure. I'm so used to mine so I will probably stick with it and see if I need much more once we're in clinic. Also, the III is heavy to carry around your neck all day.

For those who have bought uniforms, how many pairs did you get and around what was the cost?

Congrats on getting in (: !!

I don't know about you guys but I am too excited to start! I hope that January comes quickly! I just can't wait.

I am super excited as well!

Thank you! Congrats to you too.

I bought one set of scrubs, the polo shirt, and some shoes ($68) my total was $130. I don't know how much the scrubs/polo were though.

Okay, thank you (: that is not as bad as i though it would be. I do want to buy two pairs of scrubs but I think the second pair can wait

Yeah I'm doing the same. If we only have one clinical day that should be fine. The ladies working at Hamiltons talked me out of 2 sets for now.

Hey guys! Some of you have written to me asking about scrubs and such. So, you have Clinicals one day a week, either Tuesday or Friday. It makes no difference which section you signed up for. She takes the names at the end and randomly assigns you to a group (our group was 8 students, but you have more people in your class) and then to either Tuesday or Friday. You don't start out at the hospital. In fact, the first couple weeks you don't even have a real clinical. You're in the classroom (and they didn't make you come in at 6:30am until we started at the nursing home). Then, we started clinicals in the nursing home for 4 weeks. They were talking about extending that for future students. Then we went to the hospitals. You don't have to purchase a stethoscope right away. They will give you one. It's not a Littman, but it's good enough for now. In my earlier post (either in this feed or Brittany's feed for the Charlotte students) I wrote all about the clinicals and what they give you. As far as clothing....On Mondays and Thursdays, you wear khaki (or white scrub pants) and polo shirt. Tuesdays OR Fridays (whichever Clinical day you get) you wear your white scrubs. On Wed, you wear regular clothes because you only have lecture. When they are referring to "if you have old scrubs..." they are talking to current students, not you guys. It was because they changed the uniforms. So they are telling the current students they can still wear the previous uniforms they had purchased. Hope that helps! Check out my previous posts and it might answer some more of your questions. Congratulations! You made it!

Thank you so much for providing all the info! Would you mind telling me what shoes you purchased for clinicals? I hope you're doing well in the program.

I purchased my clothing at Sew Shore in Naples: 3845 Beck Blvd #809 / Phone:(239) 774-4655

Beck Blvd is what Davis Blvd becomes on the east side of 951...so it is very near the Collier campus.

They also give a small discount on merchandise for those of us in the Nursing program, maybe 10%? The discount is already taken into consideration for the price of the uniforms. I got one set of scrubs and one polo shirt for now, plus a penlight for about $4, and my total was about $60. There are a couple different brands of scrubs you can buy and I got the cheaper ones because they actually fit me better. The difference is only like $2 per item tho, so it's about the same no matter what you buy.

I want to go back and get shoes next paycheck, and at least one more pair of scrub pants to go with the polo since I'm having trouble finding khakis that fit. #curvygirlproblems Not sure which shoes I'm getting, but they had a few pair that were white leather and looked comfy. Then I just need to buy my books and a watch and I think I'll be all set except for a stethoscope. Waiting to see what they are going to advise for that.

Phew! Almost there!

You're so welcome! Yes, I'm doing well, thank you. All A's! :) 2 more Finals and I'm done with 1 semester!!! I bought 2 pairs of shoes. I bought these Reeboks off Amazon that have velcro straps. The reason is because they said try not to have laces in case you get fluids (and other stuff!) on your shoes. They need to be wiped off easily. That being said....those shoes were soooo uncomfortable! I'm sure it's cause they're new and stiff. So, my backup pair are a pair of Skechers with memory foam. These are the ones I ended up wearing. It says Skechers in silver and it has the soft fabric top. So, technically, it's not compliant but no one has said I need to change them. Feel free to ask anything. I will try to respond quickly, but can't promise anything with it being Finals week. Good luck!
