FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!

Published

Hi All,

I wanted to start a thread for the students applying to FSU in Spring 2012. I graduated from FSU in 2006 and am hoping to go back! Good luck everyone!:yeah:

fsuandrea - I am sorry! I applied but now I am thinking I might not get in! My GPA (b/c they take ALL of anything you have ever taken) wasn't as high as I would have liked it to be. I was really upset when Melinda told me that they took it all rather than just the last 60 hours

When do you hear from your community college?

Specializes in SICU, TICU, CVICU.

I hear from Gulf Coast at end Oct early /Nov. Aren't you from SRB? I am too. but haven't heard about any students who went to gulf coast. have you heard anything?

hey bjbbeauchamp! :) I don't remember her name, but I asked about how many people they were going to accept. She told me 24, she said a dean stated 34 but then changed their mine to 24 instead. This was shocking to me because 24 people out of the 177 people applied gives everyone a small chance to get in. :( She said we would find out late October. With this small chance of getting in freaks me out. I will be applying to other schools as well. Good luck to everyone!

silfran- That makes me super nervous now as I was pretty sure, well praying more so, that I would get in! I really wanted to b/c this would be best for me and my situation and if I don't either I will apply somewhere else or just wait another year and see what happens! It kind of makes me mad b/c with FSU a lot of stuff wasn't required but is at other schools and vice versa! So if I want to get into other schools I have to either take more classes or study for entrance exams and feel as if I have wasted my time with some classes.

fsuandrea- Oh ok! I was going to apply there, but really need to go to a school that offers an accelerated program b/c I have 3 girls and I really don't want to be away from them more than a year! We were going to make plans to hire a nanny so that I could move to Tally and focus on school and see them when I could on weekends and holidays. They are all really young and I think now is the best time to go while they really won't remember. I do live in Santa Rosa Beach;0) I haven't heard anything about Gulf Coast and their program or anyone going there. All the people I know went to other schools or Northwest FL. Their program is really hard to get into and so long! Does Gulf Coast do school in the summer? Do they offer an accelerated program?

bjbbeauchamp- Praying for both of us to get into the absn program! I know how you feel. Other schools want different types of exams to get into their program. So it gets costly and time consuming. :(

Wow. The news on here just keeps getting better! I expect the next post to say, "I just spoke with an advisor and there is actually not even going to be a 2012 absn program at FSU." :)

Like most of you I have applied and was banking on getting in. Coming up with that plan B now looks to require a little more of my attention. I did email Calyn to get specifics about the 177 number. As someone posted earlier, that could be the total number of applications, but not the total number of people that meet the minimal requirements. We shall see...

Grace and peace to all those who are waiting!!!

Quick update. Of the 177 applicants, only 79 met the minimum requirements. The admissions committee will be meeting on September 30th. Calyn didn't know if that would be the final meeting or when the letters would go out. I like 79 a lot more than 177!!

Man oh man. Every time I come on here the news just gets worse. I will be praying for us all since it seems most of us put all of our focus and energy on FSU's programs.

Good news? At least we are in a state with plenty of other programs to get in to. Other states only have a school or two, if any. UM is the only school in Florida though with a Spring selection, I think.

What are everyone's Plan B plans?

I am still not giving up on FSU yet. I was pretty sure I would get in but now that they are taking such a limited number of students I am pretty doubtful.

When I met with an advisor in the spring she said that about 1/2 of all who apply do not even meet the requirements. So that is a bit hopeful.... But they only had 80+ apply for 2011. I am guessing that since they stopped requiring the HESI that a lot more people applied. Who knows maybe a ton of people applied because of the simpler requirements/lack of an entrance test, but failed to meet requirements such as taking Path. Still, I wish something would happen to raise that 24....

Thanks for all of the posts everyone : ) I'll keep my fingers double crossed for us all.

Yay good news!! (finally)

One other thing I was told is that the 24 number for students accepted is not set in stone. Apparently there were more students than normal accepted into the traditional program, so the admissions committee/Dean are worried about clinical placements. So, it could be 24 or it could be more depending on how comfortable they feel with finding a placement for everyone.

Wow! I am so glad to hear all the good news about the amount of applicants. I am pretty anxious to hear if I got into the accelerated nursing program. I graduate in December with a bio degree from FAU. Although I know Fau has a great program I have heard such great things about FSU.. if FSU does not go through I have Fau and usf as a back up! Good luck to all. Im super happy that only 79 meet the requirements bc I know I meet all the requirements and patho is the last class I am taking right now. Hopefully we find out soon!

Did anyone call to see if there is any new news from the admission committee meeting today?
