FSCJ Summer 2014 Hopefuls

Published

Hello, everyone!

Since I have not seen one started on this site, I thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling. This thread is for anyone hoping to get into FSCJ's Nursing Program for the term starting in the Summer of 2014.

@Beatrice....thanks for replying! So that means I won't get possible 12 points towards my total admission points if I take Micro on summer term? See, that worries me..... 12 points is a lot, and I want to submit my application with the most points possible. Has anyone ever taken ap2 and micro at the same time? Is it really that hard?

If you get an A its actually 16 points. It can be alot, but depends on how your other classses are. with roughly 187ish being the usual cutoff, you could calculate what you have and make a decision. I know for me working full time and have a toddler, it would be impossible for me to get an A in all 3 in the same semester. But if you have the time to dedicate to it, it can be done. I had 2 friends take Micro and A&p II at the same time and they got A's. They tried to convince me to take Micro with them, and i said no thanks, i'll wait another semester! lol (one of which is currently in the nursing program now and doing great) I wish you luck!

And apparently the email was correct obviously they aren't changing in 2014 either! crazy. One thing i am not looking forward to is that i've heard the administrative part of the nursing dept can be a bit unorganized. But at least i know this so i can prepare!

Thanks for replying! Looking forward to being able to vent with you all. lol

Good luck to everyone, I know they don't consider people who are CNA's but I am thinking what is the hurt of including my license anyways right?

your welcome. It is actually 16 points you would get from micro if you get an A in it, and no you will not get those points if you take it during the summer. I did not take those 2 classes together but I don't think it is impossible to get an A in them taking them together. As long as you do not have any distractions and much effort in to it, you will be fine. I remember seeing alot of the same information I learned in AP2 in micro. Have you taken the NAT already and if so, what is your score? I know it is stressing you out that you need all the points you can get but if you have a high score on the NAT, you should be fine.

Hey!! I am taking the NAT tomorrow and hopes of applying for the Summer 2014 class... any last minute thoughts or advice on the test? I have been reviewing basic math/algebra and have watch the basic biology videos that somebody posted in a previous post.

I have come to a wall and am not sure what to do. Maybe your insights can help me make a decision. I have 198 points for admission and am able to retake the NAT again Jan 17th. I made 101 last time so there is potential for more points. I know it would always be better to get more points to apply but I am concerned that if I wait, than there could be some administrative mistake or something unforeseen that could waste too much time, in accordance with Murphy's Law. My question is what would everyone do in my situation. Apply or wait, and spend more money to possibly get more points in January. Obviously no one will have the right answer since we cannot foresee the cut-off for Summer admission. Really I am just releasing stress about it by writing. Thanks in advance.

Jfay689, If I took the NAT again, In the section that has math and shapes, I would probably just put C for the math and focus on quickly matching the shapes, then go back and hit all the math I think I could do quickly. For the Reading Comp, I would prob just hit C for every question, then go back and read and answer correctly as much as I can so I don't feel as rushed. As for the science, you will either know how many hydrogens are in H20, or you will guess. Just make sure you put an answer for every question for max points. Time is not on your side.

If I was you, I would just go ahead and apply with 198. Even though we do not know what the cut off score will be, i highly doubt that it will be higher than 198. i would be surprised if it is. If you are trying to get into nights/weekends, you may need a higher score but i don't know for sure.

I personally would not stress myself out by taking it again..lol. My points were 91.52 and I did think i was going to retake it. Now that i am at 205.5 points as my final points i've decided not to retake it. My main stress is not getting in, I fairly am confident I will get in with those points, but I am concerned about making it to night and weekends. If you are needing to do night and weekends, then it may be worth considering. But if you are able to do days, I think you score is pretty good. And excellent score by the way on the NAT. That test kicked my butt! As you can see with my 91 points..lol

Hi, Everyone!

So glad this semester is over!!! All of my prereqs are complete, and my total points for prereqs is 111 points. I took the NAT in September and only made a 69.76, so I will be taking it again in January and will hopefully be able to significantly raise that score. So as of now, my total points are 180.76 which I do not feel is high enough. It does suck though hearing the cut off was so low for the Spring 2014 semester and that I would have gotten in with my score as is. I was not eligible to apply though because my A&P 2 was not completed. I completed it this term along with Microbiology. I will be studying for the NAT again the rest of this month and early January. I've got to get that score up! Best of luck to the rest of you who will be taking it or applying for Summer 2014!

Hey!! I'm excited all my classes are done! Taking spring semester off to just relax before HOPEFULLY starting the RN program in summer! I will be applying with a 192.52, and I'm hoping that is good enough to get a seat into nights/weekends! I am taking my CPR class on Thursday and sending off my application right afterwards!!! Fingers crossed and saying prayers for everyone applying! =]
