FSCJ Summer 2011 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone planning to apply for FSCJ's Summer 2011 RN program? I am taking A&PI and II next semester with Human Growth and Dev. and Sociology, then I'll apply. I am taking Microbiology during the spring prior to going into the program. I am taking the Nat in September after Chem 1032. What about you?

Do we need CPR before applying??

My professor is horrible about grading, returning emails, anything like that. the 22nd would make more sense b/c its the last day before Xmas break

Yeah I think the 22nd is the last day they have to post grades by. That's what my micro teacher told me because he said he is submitting his grades as soon as the semester is over, so im expecting mine to be in on monday. I only improved my NAT score by 7 points the 2nd time around. If I can do that on the 3rd time, ill be good. I am retaking it again in March to give me more points for the fall. So I am taking college algebra in the spring term in preparation to apply for fall in case I dont get in for summer (which is likely to happen considering I have 196 and most of you guys already are over 200+) and last summers cut off was 197. Im just glad all of my hard prerequisites are done!

Well I got my grade today...I got an A in College Algebra! So I will be applying with no less than 202.36. That should be enough but Ill still be nervous non the less

congrats k, and to answer your previous question..yes, you do have to have your bls certification .

this is what i had copied from the fscj website...

provide evidence of current cpr certification-adult, child and infant (achieved through an american heart association approved basic life support (bls) course for health care providers, that includes hands-on simulated experiences).

knoxyboy, i can't wait to be where you're at...i am really happy to have this short break but i am ready to keep going...i am really amped right now; i finished a&p i with an a!! :yeah:next semester, i am taking on my a&p 2 and arch nemesis---chemistry!!! then i can finally consider applying.

Do you have to have it before you apply or before you start nursing school, b/c Im pretty sure its before you start. Why would they ask us to spend $40-$75 dollars to get it if we don't even know if we will get in

Congrats on a good semester! Im so excited to be done with pre-reqs!

k, check out the application requirements on this site:

http://floridastatecollegecatalog.fscj.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=18&poid=3943&returnto=2318

application procedure

to meet the minimum requirements for consideration for acceptance to the nursing program, students must:

  1. have completed the nursing application by the application deadline for the term for which they are applying for continuance.
  2. complete a college course in chemistry with a grade of “c” or better.
  3. have completed a minimum of 13 credit hours of prerequisites prior to the application deadline. a grade of “c” or better must be achieved in science courses. a gpa of 2.0 must be maintained.
  4. have submitted current psychological services bureau revised nursing aptitude exam (psb–nat) scores by the application deadline.
  5. provide evidence of current cpr certification — adult, child and infant (achieved through an american heart association approved basic life support (bls) course for health care providers, that includes hands–on simulated experiences).

i think once you get your cpr certification, it's good for a year so it will still be avail if you need to reapply later.

I have read through previous threads and they have talked about getting their certification after they got accepted. so I'm pretty sure you don't need it to apply. I'm not going to get mine until I get in. You can always call the nursing dept. and double check

I verified on my packet today and it said after:)

Congrats K on your A! I made it through AP 2, Chem, and Sociology, and Human G&D this semester with all A's :) I couldn't be more excited! Now just to tackle Micro and of course the ill fated NAT once more

Congrats to you too! You had a busy schedule:eek:

Are you going to apply for summer?

I cant decide if I wanna take the NAT over again or not. I kinda feel okay about 202.36.

If you all had this amount what would you do? Im taking into consideration that the cutoff for last summer was 196, and for spring was 194, and alot of people declining their seat. I just don't wanna take that wretched test again if I dont have to

hey, I have worksource. but i'm also 21 and single. i know a lot of people that are married/have kids/not working/etc that are on it. every person's situation is different and they will look at your expenses differently than they would someone like me who has no morgate or dependents, so it's best that you contact them (the sooner the better) good luck! if you do get it, it will be the best thing that could happen to you in school

Correct me if I'm wrong. So to qualify for Worksource, you are either unemployed, laid off, etc. So if someone has a job that doesn't pay squat like mine and married with kids, you're not qualified??? I hope it's not the case. Also, how would you appeal your student aid if you are in the 150% rule? I had my degree but I took it from a foreign country and graduated in 1994 (ages ago). And the school counted my classes even if it didn't transfer. I am so hoping to get in N/W in summer of 2011 and these finances situation is driving me crazy.

I don't blame you for not wanting to take the NAT over again. I personally wouldn't do it for the reason you just stated alone, plus 202.36 seems to be pretty good. I'm already stressing out about taking it for the very first time ever. I would be happy to be in your shoes.
