FSCJ Summer 2011 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone planning to apply for FSCJ's Summer 2011 RN program? I am taking A&PI and II next semester with Human Growth and Dev. and Sociology, then I'll apply. I am taking Microbiology during the spring prior to going into the program. I am taking the Nat in September after Chem 1032. What about you?

I wonder what the cut off will be this time. I go to take my NAT on Monday and then off to get my application turn in. Just looking for some relief...Oh boy

Hi i'm a Fall hopeful but thought maybe a summer hopeful could answer this. If I wanted to retake a class that i made a C in, how can I do that. I tried to register for it but because I passed it already, it wouldn't let me. Is it possible???

I actually talked to an advisor today :

and I was told if you make a C in a course and you would like to retake the course for the Nursing program to get a higher grade, you could speak with the Dean of you campus to tell them your situation and they more often than not allow students to retake a course for the nursing program, but you have to speak with the Dean. Not sure if its true but that is what I was just told today.

Also, did you guys know that they have a New Graduate program at Shands? Its for new graduates that have become licensed, with less than 6 months of experience. Its an 8 week program and the pay is 24.95 an hour, the program starts on the 28th of Feb and there is only 50 seats with Medical benefits, 401K and tuition reimbursment. Isn't this awesome for the new grads? I hope this will still be available for us when we all get in and get out of the program. I wonder if other hospitals are doing or will be doing the same.

I will be turning in my application for the RN program next week for the summer term, I'm retaking the NAT for any possible additional points. :)

Hey, I hope it's ok if I ask this here-I just found this website today and am not too familiar with it yet. I'm hoping to get into the program for this summer, and just took the nat today. My score is 115. I was searching about nat scores and found out that you add the number from the nat to the number you get from prereqs to determine your chances, but I'm not sure how I should calculate my number from classes because I'm currently enrolled in SYG, PSY and MCB. I have taken the other prereqs and classes like english and math, and actually already have a general AA degree because I just changed majors. Can I use other classes to total my points, or do I just have to have a lower score? Thanks for your help!

This is to the person who was asking about retaking a class that you made a C in. I was in the same position that you were in about 1 year ago. I too spoke with multiple advisors and the dean and the end result was that I would not be able to retake a class that I made a C in at FSCJ. They told me I would have to transfer and take the class at UNF. So I hurried up, got my AA degree and transferred to UNF. I ended up retaking A & P I, sociology and psychology. I aced everyone of them. FSCJ told me that they only let you retake a class if you make a D or a F. It is a little pricey going to UNF but I highly recommend it, especially if you didn't grasp a concept in one of the classes. I retook anatomy I and learned so much more because I had a different mind set than the first time I took it.

Thanks KT2010. I'm definately going to check into that. Just wondering though, what campus were you at?

rn12amber,

do you have to have your aa degree to take courses at unf. i'm 3 courses away from my aa but i'd rather just that the courses that i made c's in.

I spoke with an advisor at the Kent Campus and I also spoke with someone at the FSCJ call center, over the phone.

KT2010,

Oh okay. I was just asking because I asked someone at the downtown campus and they said I would have to go to private college to retake a course. All the campuses give different info. I've learned more from this forum about the nursing program than from the advisors.

I completely agree with you. This forum is so very helpful and yes you do get different information all the time from the advisors. The guy who I spoke with sounded so sure that a Dean would allow a student to retake the course to get a better grade "especially if it's for the nursing program" is what he said. LOL

I actually spoke to a dean at north campus. I had to have my AA degree to transfer to UNF because I didn't have the grades to get into the school directly out of high school. A lot of universities will not let you transfer mid way through a degree.

I am turning in my application today at North campus, but I'm not exactly sure where I'm supposed to be turning it in, does anyone know?

Thanks!
