FSCJ Summer 2011 Accepted!

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to start a new thread since the last one was getting soooo long. I'm very excited! Who's with me?

I guess because I was one of the last couple people to get accepted they left a looot out of orientation. Where would I find a coupon for "the box." Thanks for all the info.

The bookstore has the coupons. Just ask them if they have anymore :)

Did anyone receive an email when the final testing times were for Monday's? 9:15a? Im soooo nervous I am going to be late or something is going to happen!!!

The bookstore has a list and that will tell you which books you need. They made a point in orientation to not buy books from previous students because they have been updated and might have changed. The shirts are true to size.

Most teachers don't care if you use a previous version. The school has a contract with the book manufacturer so they do have a bit of an interest in keeping bookstore sales high.

Congrats to all of you who got in! I hope the beginning of the end is going well so far. I too got accepted for Summer but found out I was pregnant, due in Nov. and had to give up my seat, so goodluck and congrats to whoever got my seat :) I'm so happy for you guys and can't wait to be back on the road to finishing myself.

Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!Praise Jesus!!!!!! I'm in. I got my letter of declination today and as soon as I read, "I regret to inform you", the phone rang from the Nursing Dept. I was 109 with 195.08 pts. She said they are many seats are being declined.

Hi there, congrats to you all who made it into the summer program! I was curious if anyone in your class was accepted from St. Johns county? Gosh this wait is longggggggg!

I was accepted for Fall 2011 but had to decline my seat and will try for Spring 2012. I have general questions since you'll have gone thru this already. For the meantime, I'll start planning on the costs and the requirements.

For CPR/BLS, where did you go and how much? Is there a cheaper place to get certified?

For the tithers (sp), immunizations, and medical, where did you go and how much?

For fingerprints? Shoes and uniforms? Books?

I'm on a budget. I don't qualify for financial aid because I have a degree already and I'm over the 150% rule. I don't have extra money for all these stuff. Did anyone of you apply for Worksource and were you approved? I do work but $14/hr doesn't cut it after mortgage, car payment, food, utilities, you do the math. Any info I can gather right now will help me. Thanks.

I will tell you this... for term one you will be purchasing a box of books that cost around 900-1000 dollars. CPR certification varies anywhere from 20-70 dollars. You can pick up a CPR sheet in the nursing department. It will have a list on it of all of the places that you can take the class at. Your blue fscj nursing shirts are 20 (I think, I can't remember). You can buy w/e type of all white shoes that you want. Your uniforms are 25 for the top and they recommend that you buy two. You can buy w/e white bottoms you like. You will need a stethoscope, pen light and pocket protector. Also, a name badge (I think it was 5 dollars). Last but not least, you will need a watch (w/e white watch you like). As far as medical and immunization anywhere you would like to go is fine. You can't have titers done until after you get your letter. Once you get your titers pulled they will let you know the extra immunizations you will need. You need a flu shot and TB test to start things off. I went to my primary care doctor for this but I know other people in the program went elsewhere and paid less. You may want to check the Northside clinic on Dunn Avenue. Hopefully this help. If you have any other questions let me know. :)

As far as worksource goes, I make over 14$, I fell under the 150% rule and I was approved. I thought when I was accepted in Summer 2011 that I would not ever qualify for worksource and I just got it. The lady who helped me said most people do get approved. I would DEFFFF at least try.

Which Worksource did you go to? Can I put in my application now for the Summer or do I have to wait until I have the acceptance letter? By the way, I was accepted twice already (Fall 2011 & Spring 2012) but had to decline it.

How's everybody doing in the program so far? You guys are halfway there.

Since, you guys have finished, I'm just wondering how many of you were able to find jobs after graduation. I just got accepted for the Spring 2013 program, and I'm just trying to get information on the job market for new grad nurses. Seems like everyone on this forum (not just locally, but all over) says it's been VERY lately hard to find jobs as a new nurse because of the lack of new grad positions. Can someone let me know what the job search was like? How many others in your class have found jobs? Any info would be great!
