FSCJ Spring 2012 Hopeful w/???s

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here. I am in the middle of tackling the pre-reqs for FSCJ nursing program. I am really hoping to get into the SPring 2012 program (fingers crossed!!) But I'm a little confused about something.

I will be taking my last two classes in the fall, Micro and AP2. My advisor told me that I can apply for the program while I am taking these classes....my question is, if I apply to the program before the Oct. 1 deadline how will they be able to calculate my points for Micro and AP2 if I have not yet fully completed those classes? Will I have to wait until the next fall program? I am really hoping that is not the case, but I'm thinking my advisor may have given me th wrong information.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I am hopeful to get in Spring 2012 as well. A lot of people are trying to get in and are taking A&P II and Microbiology to rush in (Instructors don't recommend) however the max points a person can have with their prerequisites is up to 120 and a max of 120 from the NAT which totals 240 max points. From what I understand you need at least 200 points to even apply. You are doing the right thing. Since the NAT can only be attempted every 90 days and the deadline is October 1 it is possible to give the NAT a test run by sometime in June. That way you know what you are up against and have the possibility to take it again.

Oh wow max of the NAT in 120? I did not know that so I guess me getting in relies mainly on that test, especially for the spring. Something else I recently found out was since I am applying while enrolled in microbio there are no points from microbio that go towards my score :(

oh btw I messed up my points I have 78 so far from the grades only as I havent taken the NAt yet... whoops! accidently put a 178!

You don't need 200 to apply. You can't apply with anything. You need about 195 to be competitive

yeah so i've heard.. anyone know what the lowest amount of points theyve accepted before has been?

The NAT scores have a formulation and certain parts of the test is calculated but there is a small portion of the test that is not. Also an LPN can get up to an extra points for work experience if they decide not to bridge. The points needed to be competitive used to be about 194 and is rising as everything is becoming more competitive. I say apply anyway. A student applied to the RN program 4 years ago and couldn't get in right away, but she got in the Surgical tech program, however when some students were accepted and decided to decline attending the Spring RN class she was next on their list. I saw her working as an ER nurse 2 years later.

awesome so I guess applying while I can is good anyway just hoping the points work out! good luck to you as well :)

I turned in my application for fall '11.I'm not too hopeful though...I have 100 from grades and got an 83.4 on the NAT...So I'm probably going to retake the NAT in August and reapply...UNLESS...haha....I was also thinking about going through the CNA Program....anyone heard any thing on that program? (To help time go by)

I would suggest taking a Medical Terminology course. If you take the time to learn more than what is required (e.g. reading Clinical Connections), you should pick up a few things to help you on the NAT.

I also have website that will help you get familiar with the types of questions you will be asked on the NAT. Scroll down to Self-Assessment Modules.

On a side note, read up a little on energy. There were about 5-6 questions on electrical terms for some reason. I specifially remember ampere being one of the questions.

Hope this helps

Hi Megan,

I just applied for fall 2011...very doubtful though...I got a C in college algebra too :( I had 100 points from grades and an 83.2 on the NAT....I highly suggest taking the NAT early that way if your points are low you can retake it if you need to...I am re-taking the NAT in August ...and will be reapplying for Spring 2012...I know there are people that decline seats, but not sure if there will be enough for me to get in for fall...I am going to apply for the CNA programa FSCJ if I don't get in for fall..

advice for the NAT-don't skip over questions-I did and ended up not answering questions due to lack of time -study spelling -speed reading -MOVE FAST (they don't give you enough time to answer many sections) -VERY basic science questions (some energy-wattage related questions)

GOOD LUCK :)

Thank you so much for the information. I think I am going to schedule the PSB here soon so I do have the time to re-take it. Please keep me updated on what you here from the school. Why are you thinking of the CNA program?

Good Luck!:)

I am thinking about the CNA program b/c it would give me something to do while waiting for spring to get here!!! It will give me great experience in the medical field and hopefully it makes it easier for me to get a job after graduating :)

ALSO--about the NAT--there was more chemistry on it than anatomy...I'm trying to remember what was on it....so I might post more as I remember :o
