FSCJ/FCCJ spring 2011 hopefuls

I scanned the threads and didn't see one for this class set up yet. I'm applying at the end of the semester. Anyone else?

Thanks Melissa. I'm upset that summer does not have weekends and evenings. I have to continue to work or I would not be able to do the nursing program. I am at a deadlock now, almost about to obtain my AA but I want to get into the program. Do you know the cutoff points for the fall 2011 and any other info would be helpful. I want to still apply to the summer so I am taking the NAT. Any study tips for the NAT test would be helpful also.....nervous!

Well I have to work too which is why I am in the N&W program. Between that and a 40 hour a week job AND being a single mom is tuff but it can be accomplished! :)

No one will know what the cut offs are for points until they send out the rejection letters. Only the rejection letters give you the cut off. The acceptance packet has all of your orientation schedules, medical stuff you have to get done, etc. BUT here is a VERY helpful piece of information IF you currently are on Financial Aid: DO NOT finish your AA before you complete the nursing program. I am 2 classes away from mine and was going to complete them this Spring BUT I got into the Nursing program. That's where I learned that if you get a degree, AA AS etc., and you currently get financial aid, then your degree puts you in the 150% rule and your aid will drop drmatically which means when you get into the nursing program you have a chance of paying ALOT out of pocket. So try to keep getting into the program and hold off on your AA. If you don't get financial aid, then I say get your AA while you are waiting to get accepted. For the NAT test, definitely take it again. I did and improved by 19 points! Not much to help you with studying for it, but what helped me was finishing Micro. For some reason I saw alot of vocabulary words that I had in Micro. Hope this helps!

OMG, Melissa, thanks to much for that information about the AA and financial aid! I have been supplementing my pre-req's with AA classes but now that I know this, I will slow down on the AA courses.

I am curious...how much did you spend out of pocket when you were accepted? I will be applying for Fall 2011 and I think I recall reading in previous posts that financial aid is not always available for books/supplies before the program starts..is that true? If so, I need to start putting some money up.

I would love a breakdown of what you paid out of pocket for supplies, uniforms, shots, CPR classes, etc.

Thanks so much.

Yep! When I heard that I was so happy that I didn't finish my last two AA classes. Everything always works out the way it is supposed to. :0)

Well I don't have health insurance so if you do then what you pay out of pocket won't be what I had to pay regarding the medical stuff. Basically everyone has to pay the $9 for the passport photo, $53 for fingerprinting services, $36 (I think) for the background and around $25 or $26 I think for the drug test at the Northside Medical Clinic. I went ahead and did everything medical at the Northside Medical Clinic because paying out of pocket this was the cheapest place in town. I paid around $250 for the flu shot, and for my MMR & Varicella titiers, TDAP shot. I also paid $91 for my skills kit (required) and then you have to buy all white shoes, khaki pants, $14 for the FSCJ nursing polo, name tag, lab coat. Everything else (stethescope, BP cuff, books) I got using my financial aid at the book store. If you get financial aid it will cover everything you need at the bookstore since they now raised the funds they "front" you to $80 per credit hour. The first term is 12 credits = $960 you can use at the book store (if you get enough aid). Hope thsi helps!

Does anyone know if there is a gym at the North Campus? I didn't think so considering I don't see one on any of the maps, but all the other campuses do so I don't see why the North Campus would be any different. If anything, they should especially have a fitness center at that campus considering that that's where the nursing program is.

There's a track out past the baseball fields but no gym I know of. There are $10 massages and the mallard room for lunch tues/thurs

Hi all:

Do you think I should take Med. Terminology while I am killing time and still have F. Aid before nursing school? The other option would be to retake a history that I need a better grade on. The history will probably be required when I eventually go back for BSN. A person who is in the Spring '11 cohort told me I should def. take med. term. Do ya'll agree?

I took Med Term before I was accepted into the nursing program and it definitely helped me out. The more med terminology you knw the better off you will be. There is a medical terminology test in th beginning of the program and you have to know it anyways if you want to be a nurse.

Also, I am only two classes away from my AA since I knocked out most while waiting to be accepted. I get financial aid too, but if you get your AA or any degree then you receive much less financial aid since you will fall under the 150% rule. If I would have gotten my AA before the nursing program, then I would probably be paying half out of pocket for the nursing program. My suggestion is to take the med term and wait to finish your degree until you graduate the nursing program and can afford to pay for your AA classes.

I am a FSCJ RN student. Anyone need some Nurse Mates size 10? I really need an 11 but I though they would work but my big toe is pushing on the top :-( They are practically new and you can have them cheap!

What are Nurse Mates? I am assuming some sort of shoe since you mentioned your toe. :)
