I scanned the threads and didn't see one for this class set up yet. I'm applying at the end of the semester. Anyone else?

Cut off @ 194 I should be in... although time will tell.

Any day now then... Sorry to those who received their :( rejection letters. Keep your chin up! :)

Happy Turkey Day next week!

Specializes in none.

According to past threads, in previous terms, the acceptance letters have gone out first. I don't know why they're doing it differently this time around/

I completely agree about using a fake address to get in. I could never live with myself if I did that. Regarding FSCJ's policy, my research has shown that it is one the most discriminatory in the state to out of county applicants. Most schools give a slight advantage to students within their own county, but a high scoring out of county resident can gain admission. My score was almost 15% higher than the cut off. That's a LOT. Based on the fact that the vast majority of fscj's revenue comes from the state, not local taxes, I question the actual legality of the county preference policy.

I see where you're coming from and you have a good point. Didnt you mention in an earlier post that you were from gainsville or something like that? Maybe it was b/c you were so much more out of county then the others that applied.

They do let a few out of counties in under certain circumstances. its not as if they are not letting them in ever,at all.

It is absolutely nothing against out of county people, and its not thaat I think they dont deserve a spot. But Im glad they have this rule, because without it, Jax students wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell

K Nurse,

I have to agree with you, I believe that "backinschool" did affirm she resided in Gainesville and had been accepted into Broward which sounds to me might be in the Miami area. Now with a "4.0 GPA " to which I believe I saw her post previously also why not just apply to UF? or even Santa Fe Community College? I too would wonder if her denial was based on that residency?

I dont begrudge any Duval residents that might make the cut off over myself, as much as it would be disappointing I still have other options. I too was in the cut off point wise and just recently relocated. Had I known before applying I would have remained in Duval County. I also have completed all my prereq's at FSCJ so I too could take a denial personally however should that happen I will regroup and drop back and punt.

So "backinschool" , you have a school that has accepted you, make the best of it and best wishes on much continued success.

As of this morning, the acceptance letters for Spring '11 have NOT been mailed. So for those of you wondering who haven't heard anything yet, I believe no news is good news. I didn't receive anything yet either! The nursing dept has a question/answer meeting with all of the ones that do not get accepted and that meeting is scheduled for tonight so again I believe that no news is good news.

Is there anyone out there who knows that they didn't make the cutoff and haven't received a rejection letter yet?

Whaley,

May I ask where you got your information from on your previous post? I would wager that the remainder of the letters (I would wager the reason they havent been already sent has something to do with the scheduling of this meeting) I really dont look for them until the first of next week, if before then I personally would be totally surprised.

You know for whatever reason this meeting is scheduled, it appears that all these folks have been denied. You have to give the nursing admissions staff Kudos for taking the time to meet with them and answer questions regarding their denials, my hat is off to them. I know they certainly aren't in need of looking for extra work this time of year, as soon as the letters go out I am confident their phones will go nuts.

Yet another reason I had hoped to remain at FSCj for the remainder of my degree(S), all my interactions with the instructional staff has been more than favorable. Yes, it goes without saying that a couple have been tougher than others. To them I am thankful as I think and believed I learned more.

Hang in there troops, "no news is good news" is certainly applicable now. In the meantime enjoy your Holiday with your family and friends and for goodness sakes get enough to eat.

And to think I was praying so hard to get a letter today... be careful what you wish for! Never felt more relieved to see an empty mailbox than I did today after reading Whaley's post. I wonder why those who shared their rejection letter with us never mentioned this meeting.

And yes... the nursing staff does deserve a Kudos for setting a meeting for those who were turned down this semester (I believe this is a first from what I know of) , but make no mistake, their motives surely weren't completely selfless. I'm sure this is going to cut down immensely on the floods of angry phone calls from those who want to make sure their rejection wasn't in error or who want to know what they can do next time around.

The fact that they are holding on to the acceptance letters until after this meeting makes me very uneasy. Does this mean that if someone can make a good enough point of why they should have been accepted (for instance some out of county person with almost maxed out points) or if someone's points were miscalculated and they really should have been accepted that they're are going to dip into that pile of acceptance letters and tear some up from those who landed at the bottom of the totem pole. There is a set amount of people accepted for each semester (144 for this spring if I'm not mistaken?), so if they already have 144 acceptance letters sitting in a pile at the office, why wait until after the meeting to send them? It leads me to believe that it is possible that someone who is ranking 144th right now and have an acceptance letter sitting at the North Campus right now, and not even know it, may have a more unfortunate fate come tonight, along with a few other students who are sitting at the bottom end of the pool. :uhoh3:

Maybe I'm just being cynical... but why else would they hold on to the letters?

I've heard from current students that the reason acceptance letters are held off til last is due to the drug test. They only want to give student 2 weeks to get it done and if they sent them out earlier the students would have more time to pass it. Not sure on the accuracy with this information but it is a little more hopeful. :)

Aaahhhh. That makes a lot of sense actually. I guess I was being cynical:o

Any drug test I have had to take in the past has always had to be scheduled within 24 hours. I went in and checked on that, and any drugs they might be looking for will be out of your system in about 7 days tops, so I dont think that is a viable answer, possible but not likely.

I am too curious as to why the rejected ones didnt mention the meeting, did they just write it off?, and if they didnt and they did go why havent they posted something unless they were asked not which doesnt seem likely ....

Inquiring minds want to know....anyone else have any other ideas?? or information for that matter???
