FSCJ/FCCJ Fall 2011 Hopefuls

Published

I know this is early, but I am sure there are Fall hopefuls out there for 2011.

Anyone out there yet, or am I just overly eager?

:lol2:

I would have to assume so, because everyone else's indicates your exact points that they calculated, and your position in the determination of the 144 applicants that were accepted... In order to avoid the same mistake for the next semester you might want to consider going in and speaking to the Nursing Receptionist, i'm sure that she can pull your application and let you know what happened...

Thank you, I think that there had to have been a problem with my application. It only says All available spaces have been filled. And that they received 515 applications. That's it! I transferred from another nursing program and am disappointed, N/W are what I will try again for in the spring.

Mine says the same!!! The lady at the desk said I had everything when I turned it in...I am going to make an appointment to see what is missing..if anything :) oh well...I am going to retake the NAT and reapply for Spring...meanwhile, enrolling in the CNA program to keep myself busy :)

Good luck to everyone else!!!

I am also going to be talking to the adviser. I would like to retake the NAT but I really thought I did fine on that. I wish that I knew more about the points and where to find out how many I have. I am just two classes from my AA and have a 3.65 so I didn't think that it was going to be this disappointing.

My letter said the same thing! I'm now curious if it has to do with where I live?

I am confused about the points and where does it say in the rejected letter how many points and where you in the line as applicants are? All my letter says is Based on criteria published in the steps to applying in the nursing packet. So does this mean that I missed something in my application?

My letter basically said the same thing about the steps required to apply etc. but it also told me what place I was in regards to how they ranked everyone, as well as what they totaled my points to be. What is sad is that they used to admit 168 for fall, but now it is just 144. I know I did not miss anything, because I walked my documents over and the receptionist made sure I had everything before I left. I would like for someone in the nursing department to just go over my application with me to show me how they calculated my points. I know personally that I would not have applied if I had less than 200 pts, because I know that the program has become very competative and I really want to get in this semester! If it is meant to be it will be! I wish you all well!:o

did you maybe include sections from the NAT that are not included? You test on 4 sections (if my memory serves me correct) but they only count 3 sections in your points calculations?

I called the nursing department today and found out that the Chemistry I took a few years ago is no longer used for the program. I am so bummed to find that out as I was told that as long as I kept my catalog, I would be "grandfathered in". I now have to take the additional Chemistry, but now its placing holds in connections bc I have taken, passed a college level Chemistry. Can you say angry much? It is however my fault! Hope this isn't anyone else's problem. If you got the letter that says, Based on criteria published in the steps to applying in the nursing packet and it doesn't include the points cut off info or your points and your current position you may have the same issue as I did. I took chm1020. Good Luck to everyone who is still waiting. For those of us who didn't get in, We shall persevere!:)

That is REALLY REALLY odd, b/c I took micro last semester and people were talking about THIS fall application being the last time that they would accept Chm1020, but that moving forward it would have to be ANY other chem that had a lab component... hmmmm.... this seems really inconsistent... i hate to hear that for you...I really thought that this was the final semester that they would take it... so sorry!

I took the same Chemistry as you and I was accepted into the program. I took CHM1020 last summer and maybe the time frame had something to do with it, however that shouldn't matter. Also, I emailed the director of the program in January because I wanted to know if I needed to take another Chemistry to get into the program this fall and he said "no", he said that fall would be the absolute last semester they would accept CHM1020. Again, maybe it has something to do with the time frame, but that doesn't make sense. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

I have seen a few people curious as to how the program calculate your points. This info is from the school, hope it helps!

Add up the raw scores on the Nat from the Academic Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, and Natural Science section, then multiply by .64

On connections, click on "my program of study/degree audit" and then "Nursing RN" Scroll down to the section that says "Not Accepted Toward Degree" Right above the legend, there is a section that says "Enrolled/Graduation Summary" It will show the total points you have for the program. (For this PGM ID) It is the second to last number, next to your GPA.

Add the NAT score to your points and there is your total. The max number of points you can get is 240 (120 for each section), unless you qualify for the health related work experience points too, at which time it becomes 260.

How you calculate points is simple. Take all the nursing pre-recs you need and multiply each class credit by (a=4, b=3, c=2). Example Mcb 2010c is a 4 credit class. If you get an A in it, you multiply ( 4 credits times 4 points = 16 pts for micro.) Humanities is a 3 credit class. If you get an A in it it's ( 3 credits times 4 points = 12 pts for HUM). Total possible points is 120 pts, just for grades. The nat is another 120 possible points totaling 240 possible points plus work credit.

Good luck everyone

I definitely get how to calculate the points! Thanks for restating! What happened in my case is that they miscalculated. I went to the office today and they advised that the indeed make that mistake! They actually leave spaces open because they make errors! The crazy thing is I have to wait until July 25th to see what they will do about it! In my case, I applied with 207.64 points, and my rejection letter said I had 198.64, so there was a major miscalc! I spoke with a good friend who graduated from the program and went through the exact same thing. They reviewed her application and admitted her due to their error! She is a practicing RN now! I think it would have been better for them to take 6-8 weeks to thoroughly review the applications, because there are people who don't have spots thatshould have had spots. So I think it is up to FSCJ to expand the program back to 168 to correct their error. It would be said to pull spots from those they have already accepted, but it also isn't fair to those who earned spots, to lose out because of a miscalculation.

That's awesome for you though, since you are def. above the cut off. (A lot better that thinking you have enough but don't) Get ready for a whirl wind of things to do before Aug 29!!
