I have a master's in public health and I am completing an RN-BSN program this December. I too love prevention! I work in an ambulatory setting and I enjoy the opportunity to build rapport with patients and to teach them health maintenance and help to promote health. As a public health professional as well, I volunteer within the community with different vulnerable population. You can check out volunteer opportunities, but for full time work check the state and local departments of health and other community organizations. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for this. I have heard many say that unless you do acute care, you are not a real nurse. But I know that we cannot all work in the hospital setting. I tried after passing the boards and did not get picked up at any acute care hospital in my area. I applied everywhere I got very discouraged. I became an RN for the flexibility of the profession. So I am thinking that the rejection I faced from acute care could be a blessing in disguise. The only downfall is many other nursing positions require 1-2 years of acute care experience, sometimes 5 years =/ I hope to find my niche soon!

Definitely keep a positive outlook and remember why you are going to nursing school! To become a Nurse! Unfortunately, some people do get very clique-y in nursing school, I have experienced that myself, and was shocked at first, but then not so much! So many are in different places in their lives with regards to maturity and passion. I came in to school totally focused on the goal. I am going to be done in December 2012! YES!!! I don't have a crew or multitude of friends, but I have straight A's and have earned the respect of many. The biggest thing that kept me going and keeps me going in somewhat lonely times is my faith and seeing the end in sight! I look forward to building and establishing professional relationships because professionalism ranks high for me! Don't fall for superficialities! Remain true to yourself, and remember quality is far better than quantity! Aim to be the best nursing student you can be in order to be the best nurse that you can be! Get the most out of your education! If people are wrong about you or misjudge you or underestimate you, prove them wrong as you stay true to who you are and true to completing your goal! Be encouraged future nurse! POSITIVITY ROCKS NO MATTER WHAT!

Hey 77for2011, At first they completely missed one of my classes and thought I had a 198.64, but I had a 207.64. Also they did advise that there were numerous cancellations so they were calling folks to advise this week. I literally just received my packet today, even though they called monday. Thankfully, those of use who found out later have until orientation to get the laundry list done =) Hang in there!

This has happened before and they advised they do leave space for their errors. I am in the program now! Good luck to all. Always be sure your classes are counted and your are sure about your points!

I definitely get how to calculate the points! Thanks for restating! What happened in my case is that they miscalculated. I went to the office today and they advised that the indeed make that mistake! They actually leave spaces open because they make errors! The crazy thing is I have to wait until July 25th to see what they will do about it! In my case, I applied with 207.64 points, and my rejection letter said I had 198.64, so there was a major miscalc! I spoke with a good friend who graduated from the program and went through the exact same thing. They reviewed her application and admitted her due to their error! She is a practicing RN now! I think it would have been better for them to take 6-8 weeks to thoroughly review the applications, because there are people who don't have spots thatshould have had spots. So I think it is up to FSCJ to expand the program back to 168 to correct their error. It would be said to pull spots from those they have already accepted, but it also isn't fair to those who earned spots, to lose out because of a miscalculation.

My letter basically said the same thing about the steps required to apply etc. but it also told me what place I was in regards to how they ranked everyone, as well as what they totaled my points to be. What is sad is that they used to admit 168 for fall, but now it is just 144. I know I did not miss anything, because I walked my documents over and the receptionist made sure I had everything before I left. I would like for someone in the nursing department to just go over my application with me to show me how they calculated my points. I know personally that I would not have applied if I had less than 200 pts, because I know that the program has become very competative and I really want to get in this semester! If it is meant to be it will be! I wish you all well!

I am terribly confused. I just received a rejection today 7/13 dated 7/6 stating that the cut off was 199.08 how could someone get in with less than than 195? My points were also miscalculated by 3 points which was still above 195.... does anyone have any knowledge of this occuring in the FSCJ program in the past?

157 out of 144...got my rejection today, dated July 6th...i believe my points were miscalculated...but I guess things happen for a reason...

got my rejection today, the cut off was 199.08. Sadly my score was miscalculated, I will address it, not sure what that will do. I really thought this was my time to get into a field I have been longer to enter...I do wish all of those well who got in! I hope you make themost of it and cherish the opportunity that you have been given!
