Okay here we are!!!!!!

How is that going to work, will we have to register our classes the day of orientation and then wait for our book vouchers to post before we get our books? This is so frustrating.

Either that or pay for the books out of pocket. Either way, financial aid told me that book vouchers will only be available up to an amount equal to $40 per credit hour per term. First term is 12 credit hours, so I think we will only have $480 available for book vouchers. So we're still going to have to pay a significant amount out of pocket, especially if we want the e-box.

Hi everyone, I met many of you at the meet and greet but this is my first time posting.

FYI the box of books is available at the book store, with tax it comes to $666. I know what a horrible number, anyway they give you a list of the books not in there but the isbn are not on this list. :clown: If you chose not to buy the ebox, make sure you keep your receipt, in case you change your mind, they use it as verification that you bought the box of books.

I found apps for RNotes, Taber and Davis Drug guide for the I touch. Tabers and Drug guide are $49 and the RNotes is $29.

Butterflymom I was wondering if you bought the books or the downloads or both. I would love to have less books to carry but wonder if I will need them.

Also, if you have financial aid, I was told today the book allowances will NOT be available until after you register for your classes.

Hope you all are having as much fun as I am but hope you all are alot less stressed than I am. :nurse:

I will be so glad to start classes!!

Butterflymom purchased the box o' books and the e-box. From what she was saying, you can't buy the e-box unless you buy the box of books from them. In other words, we can't purchase the e-box only or buy the books individually from Amazon, etc. and then buy the e-box. And she said that, in her opinion, the e-box is indispensable because it is a tremendous time saver. Instead of writing and/or typing out thousands of words for care plans, study guides, flashcards, etc., you can just copy and paste. She does carry certain books to class and uses a rolling bookbag because of the weight, but other people don't think it's necessary to tote them to class. Some just bring study guides, etc. and just use their books at home.

Thanks for the info on the apps :)

And, just for added confirmation, I was also told the same thing about book vouchers, that they would not be available until after we are registered for classes. I wonder if it's immediate though. If they become available instantly as soon as you are registered for classes, then I could just bring my laptop, register while we are still at orientation, and buy the books before we leave. Instead of going home to register and then back up to campus to get the books. Hmmm....

So does anyone know if your doctor ha to sign the titer part of the physical? I got my blood drawn over 2 weeks ago and they FINAlLLY got the results back today, talk about cuttin it close! But I have a feeling I'm going to have to wait another day for them to sign that part, ya know. It only says you need a copy of the actual lab report in the nursing packet, so I don't know?

The doctor does not have to initial the titer section at the top of the physical form. They would only have to write in dates of boosters if any of your titers were negative. If your titers are positive and the doctor has signed at the bottom of the physical form, then you should be good to go.

Is the book voucher limit the same if you have a student loan? or will I be able to use some of my loan to pay for them?

NursRatchet I understand about the e box, sorry I was not specific, my question was did Butterfly mom by the reference books ( Taber, RNotes, Drug Guide) or did she download them or did she do both. I would love to just download, but wonder if I need the actual book.

Also $480 is the alotted amount for book allowance for nursing students. That does not even cover the cost of the box. Wow my money tree might need some better fertilizer to get me through all this!!!!:smokin:

Does anyone know if we can use a Blackberry in class? I know the iTouch has been mentioned before but if I don't have to buy a new gadget, I'd be pretty happy about that right now.

First Butterflymom was saying that you can't have a phone out during class. But later she said that she hadn't seen anyone have trouble with a teacher if they were obviously just using it for class purposes and not texting. She said just let them know it is your phone and make it clear that you are definitely only using it as a learning supplement.

If anyone is thinking about getting a new gadget, I would really recommend just waiting until the first week of class. We already have to spend so much money. Why have 2 separate gadgets to keep track of and potentially break, etc., if we can just use our phones? Or it may turn out that we get a professor who absolutely does not allow phones out at all. Then you might want to invest in a second gadget after all. I personally hope that, despite the small elementary desks, it will be feasible to only bring my laptop. I just find it easier to read and search and work on a larger medium, and I really don't want to be shuffling around a bunch of papers and books on one of those tiny desks. I wish I had wanted N/W. I love, love, love Deerwood campus. :redbeathe

Aaaah, my bad :lol2: I can't remember what she said about the supplements, but if you can access them electronically wherever you are, I don't see any reason why we would have to have hard copies. But what do I know? lol

Thanks for confirming the book allowance amount :yeah: Yeah, I think we could all use some miraclegrow for our trees :uhoh3:

Thanks for the info and tip!

Natalie, from what I remember from the previous orientation I attended, you can't register for your section until after 5pm (or something like that). So you wouldn't be able to register for any of the classes until the orientation is over. Now, if you wait until after the 5pm start time to leave the campus that might be an option, but I'm not certain of when the bookstore actually closes.

Thanks, Marina!! :redpinkhe

Taking that under advisement, I called the North campus bookstore, and they will be open until 6:00 next Monday. I also called the library for those of you who would like to not make a second trip back up there but don't have laptops. They will be open until 9:00. So, if we can start registering for our sections after 5:00, you could go to the library and register for classes, and then get to the bookstore by 6:00 to pick up books using book vouchers. Just an idea. I live soooo far away, so my life's mission is to get as much done as possible with as little driving as possible :nurse:

What about if we just register for 4 random classes that we can drop before we register our nursing classes, I wonder if we would get a book voucher, we can get the books, then drop those classes and register our nursing classes after orientation?

I just came back from North Campus to turn in my paperwork (YAY!). I spoke to CJ while I was there and she said that N/W is still scheduled to be at Deerwood this term. Of course she put in the disclaimer that this can change because she doesn't make the decision of where it is...of course all I heard was "Deerwood" :)

So I figured, while I was there, I'd give my credit card a workout. I bought the box of books, the e-book, and the iClicker...$807, and some nervous laughing later, I left with my oh-so-heavy box-o'-books, and I will promptly freeze my credit card in a block of ice until I need to register for classes
