Frustratingly Obnoxious People.....*vent*

Published

In my Nursing class, we have a teacher with a faint accent...resulting in her pronouncing a couple of terms different.... Thats ok.....

so....

why oh why do my classmates feel the need to be soooooo obnoxious and giggle and make hand gestures and smirk at each other whenever this happens?:uhoh3:

apparently they are upset at her because she's not *teaching right*

Its nursing school- and the time for spoon-feeding is over, the instructors is not obliged to give you a blow by blow study guide.... so why do you feel as if its it a personal insult to your person when they decline to do so?

we all paid good money to be here, we dont need our time wasted by your snide comments resulting in the instructor having to shush you all the time.

.....and to the annoying EMT if you knew everything, you wouldnt be here mmmkay? theres a reason why the instructor has MSN after her name and YOUUUUU dont!!!!!! so shut up already.......

phew....

off my chest.....;)

Oh Wow - someone VENTing about the same thing that is driving me up a tree!!!

Where I'm attending NS (DPU Chicago) we have a group that definitely falls under the "FOP" category - I generally refer to them as the "clique" or the "snotties" (becuz they're snotty *****)

For God's sake, we are in GRADUATE school!!!! And all of these problem children have supposedly just finished their undergrad degrees; BUT the majority of them act like they are still in Jr High & their heads are full of AIR!!! They do not even bother to WHISPER when they're social chatting throughout a 3 or 4 hour lecture, they just TALK - I'm not paying almost $9k tuition per Quarter (!!!) to listen to their little girl gossip, back-stabbing & sniping of other students - I'm paying the big bucks to listen to the Prof - who is trying to teach!!!! This has been going on for 6 weeks and FINALLY they got so flagarantly obvious that one of the Prof's stopped mid-sentence & threatened to throw them out of the lecture hall . . . .:yeah:

but did they learn from that? - oh no, they're still right at it - no change in behavior (indicating that they are not capable of learning) - the basic problem is that they are SO "self-important" and SO "totally self-absorbed" that they're incapable of considering anyone other than themselves. Here's the kicker(!!!!) they spend virtualluy the entire time during each class talking amongst themselves (and interferring with everyone else who is seriously trying to learn) - but then later they have the utter gall the gripe & *itch about the Prof, and "that test question wasn't fair, she didn't talk about that! HOW would they KNOW?!?!?! they're NOT listening to the lecture!!!! Frankly - I wish that the Prof's would all just keep stomping on them until they CONFORM to the appropriate behavior, decide to quit OR the Prof actually does kick them out!!!!! The disparity between their behavior & they're actual age makes me wonder about their "arrested stage of social development" - who's model fits best? Freud? Piaget? Erikson? Bandura? . . . . Maybe the rest of the class could have a practical lesson by determing which stage-based-developmental model best fits ;)

Well there's my two-cents worth! :twocents: - which is about 7 weeks of total frustration with these little twits! (I feel 20-lbs lighter just unloading that!)

You will find that even as a nurse some of your co-workers will be frustratingly obnoxious. Prime example was my shift last night. I'm busting my hump with a patient while another nurse and a CNA are making little fliers about a couple of other nurses as a joke to post around the entire unit. Very freaking mature and professional. So I happen to find one, put it in my pocket and make a comment to a coworker in passing that I should give it to management. They could get fired on the spot for those fliers. So they get wind of this(my coworkers) and one confronts me. I give her the flier back and say "Consider this a freaking warning. If I see this crap again I will most definately take it to management the next time". Her excuse was that the coworkers who were the subject of the flier, made one as a joke about her. Sorry honey two wrongs do not make a right. These people are older than me and I am more mature than they are.

Kinda in the same boat. Where are a few girls in one of my classes that never shut up. I have never heard that much bad language in one sitting even. I had gotten late to class on the first day (they sent me to the wrong building, whilst I was early)... So I had no choice to sit in the back, it became my perm seat. So these girls are running their mouths, being rude, and just out right getting on another girl and I's nerves. They have no respect for anyone there that actually cares to learn, then expect the teacher to show them how to do everything...

You know what though? I am glad this mod is almost over and done with. Then I will not have to put up with them anymore. Another thing, I am glad that at the end of the day I will make something of myself, but them... they are not going to get far if they keep running their mouths the way they do. Simple as.

To each their own.

Had to laugh when I read this, as I could have written this last year (including the part about the know-it-all too). Your poor teacher most likely hears all they are saying too. It's simply disrespectful. Just count down the days you have left with these people, seek out and enjoy your time with the good ones in your class, and know that what goes around comes around.

How many of you actually confront the students and ask them to be quiet?

There's a difference between being polite and being a door mat.

I agree. I remember I confronted classmates who were talking during lecture, they thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with their behavior. People have no freaking manners nowadays.

I guess it's a good way to start learning confrontation skills, lord knows you'll need them when you get into a hospital and deal with patients.

Why do the professors just threaten? Why not actually chuck them out? I know I would

i've confronted some classmates, talked to them after class about their behavior, sometimes snap at them during lecture (which would chime in the other students telling them to shut up also)...regardless, their behavior doesn't change...it just gets worse and then all the crap talking begins. sigh...it's a vicious cycle.

that's why i've learned to just sit in the front, focus completely on the lectures, and just do what i need to do to get that grade i want!

I think we're in class together. Dr. N?

Kind of nice to hear someone else who thinks that it's time for our classmates to put on their big girl (and boy) panties and start taking responsibility for their own education.

If the students fail to comply after you've asked them I'd go as far as to complain to the Professor in front of the entire class.

That is, if it's affecting your education severely.

It doesn't really matter if people in your class think you aren't cool, does it? I'm sure a lot more students will be grateful, rather than angry, that you stuck up for the class.

Thanks everybody for your awesome replies!:yeah:

this is good therapy right here.lol your posts reminded me that i need to focus on the GOAL of why the heck im here and stop letting others distract me.

it is very frustrating when people dont pay attention and when they fail the tests " oh my goodness its all the instructors fault. we never went through that material etc..."
