Need help deciding to go from social work to nursing
No matter what anyone says, age is just a number. If you feel up to it, then do what your heart wants. You're never too old to make yourself happy. Hey, the good thing is, if it doesn't work out, you DO have something great already to fall back on.

Finding Balance
I had a family member get after me about dishes being piled up and my bedroom being a mess. So I simply stated, "if you do not like what you see, turn back around and walk out the door you just came through!" IMHO, nursing school is almost like a full time job, if not harder because of all the studying, reading, just everything you need to do and get done. Good luck to you though.

Do you agree that Nurses are on the Worst Driver List?
That is pretty cool. The government worker one, I can see that for sure. I have plenty of military friends who lack in the driving department lol!

Those experienced in taking blood pressure, I'M DESPERATE!!
The lady that had taught me how to do BP, said that sometimes people can hear something all the way to the end, but the lower number is when you actually hear a change in the way it sounds. I agree with hburatti85 though, ask your teacher how they are doing it. Don't worry if you look stupid, everyone gets confused on something or another. :]

The National Health Service - how do other countries provide care???
My Mom is American and had no health insurance, lol. Her stupidity though! Oh and she was living in Pictou, Nova Scotica at the time.

The National Health Service - how do other countries provide care???
I am American, so it's sort of funny... When I was 17, I went to Canada for a month. I remember my Mom who had been living there for years, got sick and needed to pay $500 out of pocket to be seen at the emergency room. Then when I went to England, I moved there. At the time I was 18 and pregnant, also married to a England citizen. I had my visa and all that. I never paid seeing the family doctor or when I went into labor to have my son (when I was 19). So my health care there was all free, which did surprise me! When my husband and I broke up I came back to America which our son, who has duel citizenship. I had nowhere else to turn for us and needed to get Medicaid for my son. Turns out I could receive it too. So, I didn't have to pay for health care or medications. They sure do treat you like crap though. Fast forward a little bit. I went to Australia December 2008 (came back January 2009). However, while I was there, I busted my ear drum and got an ear infection from it. Very painful! To see a doctor, I only had to pay about $150 (I think) to see a doctor but they ended up being very nice about everything and not charging me! So all I had to pay for were my medications. Fast forward a bit more. I just turned 24 last Saturday and now I am on private insurance. I have a small co-pay for both seeing the doctor and getting medications. Fun times.

Frustratingly Obnoxious People.....*vent*
Kinda in the same boat. Where are a few girls in one of my classes that never shut up. I have never heard that much bad language in one sitting even. I had gotten late to class on the first day (they sent me to the wrong building, whilst I was early)... So I had no choice to sit in the back, it became my perm seat. So these girls are running their mouths, being rude, and just out right getting on another girl and I's nerves. They have no respect for anyone there that actually cares to learn, then expect the teacher to show them how to do everything... You know what though? I am glad this mod is almost over and done with. Then I will not have to put up with them anymore. Another thing, I am glad that at the end of the day I will make something of myself, but them... they are not going to get far if they keep running their mouths the way they do. Simple as. To each their own.

Take the IV out... yourself.
lol, it's okay. :] I signed the papers after the nice one helped me. :] I never saw "BlankieRN" again. :] I had the IV for being really dehydrated. No, fun, but such is life, hey? I am just glad I rarely get sick! My son on the other hand... it seems like he is always getting ear infections. He is 4 and I remember somewhat, at his age having to get tubes in my ears for it. :/ Best part of all... My lovely Grandfather... get this... One fell out on its own and after awhile of waiting, he took tweezers and pulled the other out! LOL Got to love Grandparent logic... If you can do it yourself then do it yourself! Which reminds me of another time I had 9 stitches in my leg from swinging on a tree and one of the branches going through my leg... After it healed up, instead of taking me back to have the doctor remove the stitches, it was another DIY! He cut the stitches and pulled them out. :] Oh how I love my Poppa!

Take the IV out... yourself.
Also, I would like to add... I am glad I am not the only one who has been in this situation. The nurse that helped me take it out, was absolutely sweet. She felt bad that the other nurse had done that. Lesson learned for me however; If you're in the middle of doing something, don't just run off to get another patient a blanket because one person cannot find them. Finish taking out the IV first! Once you start on something... DO IT!

Take the IV out... yourself.
Yeah they did. So I signed it after the other nurse had taken the IV out.

Take the IV out... yourself.
I never said anything to her. I was just waiting and watching. Only thing I can think of was when I sighed from being tired. And no need to apologize. :] Everyone reads into things differently. Yes, I did file a complaint.

Take the IV out... yourself.
Never! I wouldn't want someone to do damage to themselves from something that could of easily been taken care of quickly.

Take the IV out... yourself.
So, I spent some time in the emergency room. Turns out I strep throat, so that's why my fever was being cruddy and throat getting worse. I never honestly get sick and the one time I do... it's not so pretty. Funny thing is, I am also a nursing student so I attempted to keep a keen eye and just watch. However, I never told the nurses I was a nursing student, when they asked what I did for a living I told them I was a Mom and smiled. When it came time for them to discharge me, the nurse came in and started to take my IV out. Another nurse came to ask her for something while she was in the middle of doing it. Focused on talking to her. I ignored it, but wished she would hurry up and just take the dang IV out. I wanted to go home and go to bed. I was tired and feeling like crap, plus I missed my son. Then she turns to me and says the unbelievable... "Here take it out yourself." She walks out and NEVER comes back. At this point I am fuming. So I start picking the rest of the tape off my arm and as I finish taking the tape off, another nurse walks in to see me getting ready to carefully pull my IV out. She asked what I was doing it and why I was doing it. All I could think of and manage to say was to "ask the ***** nurse that told me to do it myself." Thankfully the other nurse helped me take it out. I've never been told to do it on my own and honestly the woman should have just finished taking the IV out without leaving me hanging... Oh and what she left me for... was to go get blankets for another patient.

Do Nurses Get Vacations Every Year

Tidewater Community College
Really?! They didn't give me any problems at all. Just a big run around on stupid paperwork! lol. Maybe I have one up on being a single Mom and that's why they haven't given me too many problems.
