In my Nursing class, we have a teacher with a faint accent...resulting in her pronouncing a couple of terms different.... Thats ok.....
so....
why oh why do my classmates feel the need to be soooooo obnoxious and giggle and make hand gestures and smirk at each other whenever this happens?
apparently they are upset at her because she's not *teaching right*
Its nursing school- and the time for spoon-feeding is over, the instructors is not obliged to give you a blow by blow study guide.... so why do you feel as if its it a personal insult to your person when they decline to do so?
we all paid good money to be here, we dont need our time wasted by your snide comments resulting in the instructor having to shush you all the time.
.....and to the annoying EMT if you knew everything, you wouldnt be here mmmkay? theres a reason why the instructor has MSN after her name and YOUUUUU dont!!!!!! so shut up already.......
phew....
off my chest.....
Good post..you know, I came to NS with background and there were times when the instructor did make a mistake(this was in our one lecture about the OR)..usually, I'd just let it ride. However, there was one time where it was a test question -I'm sure people were happy that I spoke up, especially since everyone got 2 extra points.it's always those people who think "they're too cool for school" who end up going to the "circle of nerds" in the end. i've had my fair share of hanging with the "cool kids" and the "nerds" and the result is always the same: those who take the subject matter SERIOUSLY will thrive. those who think they're too cool to study, FAIL.i'm starting nursing school in May and i've always had those type of people in your class in my pre-req classes. i've noticed too that people who have been in the medical field (lvns, cnas, emts, etc...) think they do know everything and often *try* to correct the professor if they think something is wrong. BUT...in all fairness, not everyone is like that. there are those who have a medical background who are more than willing to help, learn, and share their experiences that are relevant to the subject matter.
hang in there, buddy...like a previous poster said, you're there to learn. ignore the obnoxious know-it-alls and the too-cool-for-school kids and don't let them distract you. :)
Most of the time, I kept my head down, did my work, put in my time(especially with those stupid care plans..yuck!). I even managed to bite my tongue when one of my teachers kept slamming the OR and OR nurses-not that it was easy, mind you.
Let me put my teeth in before I answer this post......The problem with young people today.....Seriously though...I've got two tween-teens now and wonder if this "child-centered" way of child-rearing is causing some of this. I've known the parents who will fight a teacher or any adult authority figure if they look cross-eyed at their child. Sometimes I think respect for adults and teachers is severly lacking in how people raise their kids these days. No one should tolerate abuse, but sometimes parents don't even tolerate a differing opinion! That's not real life. Sometimes my child's teacher or another parent may do something I don't agree with, but I tell my child that she is the teacher and you need to respect that teacher. (This is if that something isn't dangerous or illegal.) When they are older and can make their own decisions, they can choose differently.
I think when kids aren't taught proper respect for adults when they are younger, they become obnoxious college students and co-workers.
To the OP, I was where you are a few years ago. I just tried my best to ignore them.
This is something that all of us old crotchety people say but it is so true. Part of the reason for this is that the parents themselves have lost faith in their "authority figures". I think years ago people had more respect for politicians and other leaders. We have just been so let down by all of them that we send that message to our kids. Between priests molesting kids and all the corrupt politicians and cops, who do we have as leaders to look up to. There are no more Martin Luther Kings anymore. We have become cynical as a society and rightly so. JMO
