I had an appointment today to get registered for classes for fall, I was going to register for my Pre-Req's (A & P1, Pharmacology etc) and register for the CNA class as well. I had EVERYTHING figured out, and my appointment scheduled.
I got to my advisors office and he'd gone home for the day... but reffered me to someone else. (Ok...EXCUSE ME!! You just left when you still had appointments?!?! )
So I sit down in this other guys office and explain to him what I want to do,but before I can even finish explaining he interupts me and says "I'm sorry but you have to apply for the nursing program first." I know for a fact that is not how it works, so I tried again to explain my situation and he then interupted and told me that you can't just go for your ADN you have to first get your LPN...
That doesn't even begin to sound right to me, not after all the research I've done... so I told him I just wanted to register for these classes (handed him a list) and that I would keep my current major for now.
He then told me he can't even register me :angryfire and gives me a LIST of phone numbers, about 25 of them and told me to ask if any of them could help me!!
So with that being said... 1: If I have to get my LPN before I can get into school for my RN then I'm going to say screw the ADN and go for my BSN... 2: I'm trying to figure out who I need to go to to complain about this moron! 3: I'm going back in to talk to my advisor on Monday and let him know how upset I am!
GrRrRrRrR!
You are not alone. In my school the advisors are also the clinical instructors and the one's who register you for classes etc....
Most of the time I go there, they are unavailable. If you make an appointment, they leave, and if you go at night there is usually one person there and is just about clueless about everything.
The scary thing is that you pay big bucks to go there as it is a private college. If you ask the same question, the same day to every single advisor, you will get a completely different answer :angryfire
I know how you feel. Somehow, although I don't know how your school works, it does not seem right to have to get your LPN first before pursuing your ADN.
Anyhow, good luck in your next appointment. Make sure you let that advisor of yours that you are upset and the least he/she could have done was given you a courtesy call to let you know he/she was leaving for the day.
Good luck, and let us know how it went
Don't let the advisor get to you. I was out of high school 8 years when I went to nursing school. I had to take all the basic high school classes and the ACT/never had that either. He told me I was to old, out of high school to long etc blah blah blah..........
I graduated.............been a nurse almost 20 years.
Start jumped as the advisor is one of the hoops your going to have to navigat your college experience.
