From KBCC to Hunter College or......

Published

]Hi all, this is my first post... but anyways here goes. I currently attend Kingsborough CC and after the spring semester of 2099 i'll have an associate degree in liberal arts. Now i've already taken a few of the prereqs for nursing like Bio Human Anat/Physio, General Pysh, Human Developmental Psych & English. I'm not even going to give kbcc's nursing program a shot because it'll be just a waste of time. I know Hunter would be a waste of time too but i'm willing to give it shot there instead of kbcc lol. Now i'm looking at Hunter College website and it says that Microbiology, General Chem w/ labs & Organic Chem w/ Labs, and Intro to Statistics are needed. I'm thinking about staying at KBCC, taking the rest of the prereqs there, then transfer to Hunter and give it go. Would Hunter accept those credits I took or will I have to retake some or all of the prereqs?

I'm looking into LIU in Brooklyn also but i'm not really sure of their requirements such as the acceptance of transfer credits or if i'll have to repeat a course because my some credits won't get accepted.

Any help/advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

IMO, it is easy to get in, but once you are in you will be working your butt off. I think people have this misconception that if it is easy to get in, they won't have to work hard. LOL, they find out quickly how wrong they were. I wasn't worried about the bad rep. As a matter of fact, every time I tell someone I go there they tell me how they hear what a good program it is.

I won't lie, there were days when I wanted to throw up my middle finger, throw my books in the garbage and never go back. But now that I've started clinicals, there is no way they will be able to get rid of me.....It's certainly not easy, but if you want it, you will do what you have to do.

Because the school is expensive, I don't make it a habit to "encourage" people to go there. I think everyone has to make the decision on their own. But I have no problem sharing my experiences and answering questions.

I applied there and I'm waiting...is it hard to get in..I have 3.2 and all prerequisites done. My sciences are B's except for Micro ( I have an A) ..my concern is the bad rep of the school. What can you tell me about this? any advice would be appreciated :)

Thanks

Thanks Dreamer! I'm so concerned. I applied to my community college and I just found out they sent the letters out today!!!! so wish me LUCK:)

Honestly...I want to earn my bachelor's. I live on Long Island and of course it would be easier to go to school here. I just got a job offer at Good Sam as a Surgical Aide. I have mix feelings..My school won't take low GPA's but I heard of PPl geeting in with muchhhh lower GPA than mine. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Anyways, I really want to be a Nurse and I would love to start this Spring. But, let's face it, My GPA is not that great. I applied to Molloy, my Community College and LIU. I have to stay possitive and if I don't get in for Spring, I'll keep trying until I drop DEAD:bugeyes:

How did you apply for the position at good sam? Online or in person and how long did it take for them to call you. I am having a hard time finding jobs and I applied to a few patient care positions there but haven't heard anything.

Ok..I applied online like the beg of OCT and they called me last week. The position I applied for was Technical Aid for the OR. Go to http://goodsamaritan.chsli.org/index.php/careers/career-opportunities.html

and check the opening they have too see if any of them apply to you. I'm not even in Nursing school yet ( But I work for an Oral Surgeon as an Asst for many years) and they called me. They Girl I spoke to was Lauren from Human Resources. They are looking for People and I heard they pay reall goodd.

or another thing...I don't know where you live, But Huntington Hospital will hire Nursing student who took their first clinical rotations- I went there In person. If interested, you have to go in person to apply- If you want a job fast , try private hospitals better. I have no idea why, but they hire people with out being certified. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Good Luck!

That's great!!! I heard their program isn't hard to get into but just to STAY in. Do your best and forget the rest. Their Nclex passing rate is in the nineties this year so things are definitely looking good there now.

If you got accepted for the spring, then I suggest you call LIU SON tomorrow to find out when you can register. Registration started on Monday.

I contacted the BON and the passing rate for last year was 95.9% for LIU. I think for this year it is a little higher, I think 98% but I haven't verified it yet. And yes, it's hard to stay in this program, just like it's hard to stay in any other nursing program you get into. And yes, there are complaints about the school, just like complaints students have about other schools.

After being in LIU this semester, I've come to the realization that LIU gets a bad rap. I am doing absolutely GREAT so far, but I am a hard worker. I can't say the same for those who come to class (or don't), pay no attention, talk and text, then cry when they fail an exam and then say it's too hard. Nursing School isn't easy so I didn't expect LIU to be easy. I am happy with my decision to attend LIU SON.

hello all and NY dreamer,

I`m attending at BMCC and got 3.75 gpa for pre-reqs classes. Bmcc nursing program is very very hard to get into like other cuny schools. But, i dont want to spend my time while waiting for no reason.

I am considering to register to LIU.

1- How much LIU nursing BS cost approximately?

2- is it worth?

3- how hard/easy to find a job for new graduates ?

4- what date is the deadline to register this school for next coming semester?

5- I took English I and II,a math class for health,A&P I,General Psychology,speech,Intro sociology,fundamental chemistry. What other classes should i take ? (like A&P II,Dev psy,etc)

6- Should I just apply to LIU to finish all pre-req classes or take some other classes at BMCC? ($ issue)

7- is there any advantages/disadvanteges to register/finish 4 years colleges rather then 2 years colleges?

1. http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/bursar/undergraduate_tuition.html

2. To me it was worth it because I was not going to stress and wait to get into a cheaper school. Is the curriculum worth it? Well, that remains to be seen since I just started.

3.Only a new grad would be able to answer that question, but from what I see on this thread NYC new grads may be having a problem getting jobs right now

4. You should be able to call the SON to find that out. I think the latest to register is usually right before the new semester or during the first week. Those who wait until the last minute to register usually aren't to happy with what they are stuck with.

5.http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/nursing/bsnurse.html#full_time_study

6.If money is an issue, then finish up at BMCC. If you are already there, you may as well apply to BMCC's nursing program

7. that's a whole 'nother thread. As a matter or fact, that's a whole 'nother forum. https://allnurses.com/forums/f283/

Take care!
