From KBCC to Hunter College or......

Published

]Hi all, this is my first post... but anyways here goes. I currently attend Kingsborough CC and after the spring semester of 2099 i'll have an associate degree in liberal arts. Now i've already taken a few of the prereqs for nursing like Bio Human Anat/Physio, General Pysh, Human Developmental Psych & English. I'm not even going to give kbcc's nursing program a shot because it'll be just a waste of time. I know Hunter would be a waste of time too but i'm willing to give it shot there instead of kbcc lol. Now i'm looking at Hunter College website and it says that Microbiology, General Chem w/ labs & Organic Chem w/ Labs, and Intro to Statistics are needed. I'm thinking about staying at KBCC, taking the rest of the prereqs there, then transfer to Hunter and give it go. Would Hunter accept those credits I took or will I have to retake some or all of the prereqs?

I'm looking into LIU in Brooklyn also but i'm not really sure of their requirements such as the acceptance of transfer credits or if i'll have to repeat a course because my some credits won't get accepted.

Any help/advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

When Nursing Recruiters, Hospitals and or the public hear that you graduated from Kingsborough with a degree in NURSING, they are very impressed!!

Hahahhaaa...verrry funnny! It just is a myth.

My friend had finished in Spring 2008 the nursing program at KCC. Out of 105 students finished less than 30 !!! Nice percentage! Also, when she was looking for a job nobody from requiters cared what institution she gradulated from. What they were interested was wether she had BSN or else.

Does anyone know LIU's Nclex rate? I've heard that their program sucks and is hard to STAY in. If you drive, Molloy College in LI is a better bet. Honestly, Hunter would be competitive but it doesn't hurt to try. Just don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Best of luck!

Hello all,

I know this post is quite late but just a few things about liu son.

Yes, they do have a great nclex passing rate but it has gone down to about 85%. However this great passing passing rate is due to the fact that the graduation rate is 21%!!! I know that everyone complains about nursing school but liu is NO exception. Its all about WHO you know rather than your grades. I would never recommend liu to anyone. If you still consider attending, i suggest you get to know the following people very well: ************. Good luck to all!

ok first ok all go check the passing rate to LIU it is not 85% it is 97% in 2009. i am not sure about bad rep but it is a nursing school and i agree that it does cost alot of money.Dont settle for what ever nursing program accepts you if you are determined you can get into what ever program your heart desires. also the reason is because you want to go to a great nursing program that is respected and that you are more likey to get a job after you graduate , also the school you come from does matter when there are hundreds of applicants to a positon they see your name and next to your name is the school you come from. the place you apply knows how well people from that nursing program are and most likey pick you over somneone else. another think kbcc is not the only school so far from 2009 nclex passing rate medgar evers has 100% passing nclex even if it is associates. lehman has a bsn program i think in the 90% NYIT opened a new bsn nursing program but only 40 % passed and hunter obviously in the high 90 % .... any ways my point is that you should check what nursing program you desire do there pre reqs because at the end of the day you cant satisfy evey program you apply. Most importanly for all of those new grads even thou you cNT find a job YOU HAVE MADE YOUR MArk in the world. keep working over time extra hard to get that job.
