Hello!

Had a few comments/questions regarding travel nursing. I'm preparing to start travel nursing this summer with the possibility of doing this long term. Fellow nurses of mine have had recent experience doing this and loved it. One just came back from Florida and was bringing home $1700-$1900/week. Now, from most of the posts on here I don't see anyone getting that kind of pay. Why? She had a few minor issues with the company but stated basically it came down to recruiter errors. Another nurse went to California a few years back and made major bucks. I would be lying if I said that money wasn't a major motivator in my decision, but also the chance to travel and all the new experiences. So what are your thoughts on pay? I have a handful of agencies I have been or will be in touch with: Aureus, Nightingale, Healthcare Seeker, PHP, and Expedient. A couple of these companies are the ones my friends used. Any thoughts???:nurse:

My thoughts are FL typically has a much lower pay scale (especially for travelers). $1700-1900/week take home?? That sounds really good. I know R.Ph & NPs that dont make that kind of cash.

I would make sure your clarifying the "take home". Is that including housing stipend? Seems high to me also.

I live in Florida. It sure is hard for me to believe anyone making that kind of money in Florida.

doesnt happen. im traveling rt now in one of the most expensive cities NYC and bring home is about 1500 wk but that includes taking the housing stipened and my incidentals which arent really income per se. And im working an 80.5 pay period so 7 11.5 shifts! Trust me you cant find that in florida..shes lyin to ya:) I looked allll over for around 2 years before I took this assn.

How many hours a week is she working. I was referring to 36 hour work week. I really encourage any one who is interested in traveling to evaluate the reasons before jumping in. You get paid for the hours you work. Most companies do not have PTO hours. The motivating factor should not be about the dollar or I think you may be a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the pay isn't bad, but it is definately not why I do it.

She really did bring home that much and showed me her stubs after I told her what u all said....most of the recruiters tell u not to share what u make...why? because they don't want to pay anyone else that! lol.......I make $28/hr in my own job here in Ohio,,,there is money out there to be made you just have to know how to get it.

Was it Weekly or Bi-weekly pay? Off the top it just sounds too good to be true.. I guess I have heard of a few RNs making $50/hr.

You should RUN to that job.. Let us know how it works.

The most likely thing here is that either her housing costs were included in the paystub or she took a position without housing, etc. in order to get a higher payrate.

As a 14 year traveler with multiple assignments in FL I can tell you that is not realistic otherwise.

Now I know why I quit my old account on this allnurses.com, because you all are so negative, why would she or I lie, it wouldn't benefit anyone....goodbye

Hey ! I believe you! You are right 4hams! I believe those nurses that call u a liar are working harder NOT smarter! WE ALL need to research a job before you jump in & honestly most people are too busy or LAZY or simply NOT QUALIFIED - meaning bare minimum nursing exp. Not all nurses are created equal. I am seriously considering doing Travel Nursing soon but want to research it first.

4hams please let me know if u find out the agency name or more info! Was ur friend in a specialized area? ICU... or basic home health or MD office lower experience and energy required. THANK U!

OTHER NURSES ARE HATERS! ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY FIND OUT OTHERS MAKE MORE THAN THEM. IF YOU SETTLE FOR LESS THE AGENCY WILL PAY YOU LESS. YOU HAVE TO SELL YOURSELF IN THIS BUSINESS! Why cant we all just help each other & get along? The whole point of this forum/website. Right?
