There are still ER's out there using paper charting. My experiences with web-based charting are Cerner, T-system, Meditech and Epic.
Each have their merits. Some are better than others. You can't really plan for any particular software. Your orientation will cover how to use the software.
We use T system. I have used the same systems as EmergencyNrse. I personally prefer T system (I think Meditech would be a nightmare for ER charting, it was a nightmare on the floor).
We used Meditech and it IS a nightmare!! Ughh..! Coming from Tsystem, Meditech is for the birds!
Tsystem is much, muuuch better.
I worked in a freestanding ED until just recently (I'm in the Army now). When I came to my ED in 2005, we were using the T-system on paper. Last year we went to PICIS/ED Pulsecheck, which was a great electronic system, overall. There was some tough transition time, but in the end, I think we all prefer electronic charting ... at least judging by the dismay/outcry when the system would go down (which, thankfully, did not happen often).
I will be working in an Army ED starting in late June or early July, and I've been told they're still on paper. Oh dear. LOL.

Hi there!
Im new here, so howdy! I have a quick question for any of you out there who work in free standing emergency rooms. What type of charting do you use, paper or computer? For those who use computer charting, what program do you use?
Thanks in advance!
