Just a couple questions:
1) Anybody work for Freeman Health Care in Joplin?
2) Know anything about the oncology floor there?
I was offered a position there and the pay isn't as high as I would like but want to do oncology. Don't wanna get into another mess as I have here at the hospital I am working at in Arkansas...

I don't know anything about the oncology floor, but what I know of the hospitals so far (not much...) but I like St. John's much better. I had my son there and hope to work there, not Freeman. Freeman is the "bigger" hospital of the two, but St. John's seemed so much nicer and the nurses knew more, at least the ones I talked to. :)

Joplin is my hometown and Freeman is the better of the two I was born there, they have a nicer hospital. The staff is better and even though I dont live there anymore if I did I would probabley work there.

Ive worked at both hospitals among others and I can tell you that the stuff I have seen happen at this hospital blows me away. I could go on for days, but I wont. I dont know that much about the oncology floor specifically and every place you go is going to have their own problems. I think the difference is that the two hospitals Freeman and St. John's are regulated by different agencies.............Freeman by ISO and St. John's by JCAHO which regulatates a large majority of the hospitals in the US. You will just have to decide for yourself. Both hospitals are about the same size bed for bed and offer pretty much the same services. Freeman has always been a little more focused on babies and OB and St. Johns more of the Hearts and Trauma. Freeman has a NICU and St. Johns does not. Good luck.

Hey, I'm new to this website. Just looking for something to keep me up to par on nursing news and insider stuff. Your question about st. johns...for me I have had only good experiences as a patient and an employee of st. johns. I have been a patient at Freeman and was not treated with the care, or dignity one deserves. This is my opinion for what it's worth. I'm kinda new to this blogging/forum thing....any advice would be accepted.

what is the pay for new graduates in joplin missouri thinking of moving there and working at St Johns any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
At Freeman new grads (I don't remember if you said you were a new grad or not) start out at $17.45/hr. The night diff is $3.59. I believe it is pretty much the same for St. John's, but StJ might also have a weekend option availible. Both hospitals offer some sort of tuition reimbursement also. As a side note- I have heard rumors that StJ is about to be bought out, but I'm not sure by whom.

I have an interview at St. Johns next week. I've been a nurse for 12 years but have little to no ICU experience but WANT TO WORK ICU VERY BADLY!! St Johns has a great training program I hear. Can anyone tell me about it. I work in Nevada Mo now and it looks like Im getting paid about $5/hr more here but to gain the ICU experience will b worth the cut (I hope). I'm scared to death about going to a bigger hospital and working in a ICU that has ICU patients but very hopeful and excited.
Did you end up working there?
