have a wonderful life! :wink2:

Hi, there-

Anyone still reading this post? ... waiting to hear from UofA? I think we should be notified this week! Did you all complete your FAFSAs yet?

-Shelby

I thought it would be next week.

I calculated out the probability of a person getting a sponsorship with their first choice and it is less than 6% so I find it funny that they mentioned during the info session that she has been able to almost always give someone their first choice. She's probably thinking of before when they didn't have self pay & before the hospitals cut spots.

Also, from investigating, I think I've figured out how they decide admissions. They assign a score to parts of the app - undergrad GPA, prereq GPA, essay, experience, interview, etc. I've HEARD that GPAs carry a lot of weight. Don't know if they changed the formula this year.

Oh, and the probability of you getting admitted in general - self pay or sponsorship - is about 66%. Sounds a bit better if you're willing to pay.

Yes, I've finished my FAFSA. If you've completed your taxes, it should only take about 10 min. Also, the priority deadline for the FAFSA at the U of AZ was March 1st.

Just got the email! Tucson, here I come!

I am so very grateful for the opportunity to attend the University of Arizona and to have secured a sponsored position at my first choice hospital, University Medical Center!!!!!

Best of luck to all of you out there! Would love to hear what you decide!

Congrats Shelby!

I also was accepted (Yay!!!) I am so excited for the program!

I am looking at places to rent in Tucson, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the parking situation at UA. I forgot to ask at the interview. Does anyone know if it is an easy campus to commute to? Is it super expesive for a parking pass? Do they even allow us to purchase them? Or should I really try to get a place that is within walking/ public transit distance to the university? Also, are there any really bad/ dangerous areas I should try to avoid when looking for housing?

I would really appreciate all the advice I can get! Thanks so much in advanced, and congrats to everyone who got accepted! I'll see y'all in june! :D

I recommend figuring out your parking early. Parking passes go quickly, and they are expensive. You're looking at $300-$600 for parking per year.

Congratulations everybody! I have also been accepted with a sponsorship from UMC (my first choice)!!! This is a dream come true for me! I can't wait to move to Tucson and to start the program.

Shelby, did I meet you during the interviews? I came from Philadelphia and interviewed in the last group.

I'm assuming that after we mail in our acceptance letters that our contracts will come?!? Does anybody know the whole processs?

Congratulations to everyone who was admitted! I hope to be where you are next year. I know this sounds nosy, but what are your stats like (e.g. Undergrad GPA, prereq GPA, work experience, age, etc.)? I really want to be accepted, but I don't know if I reallistically have a chance.

Hello! I am currently in the accelerated program at the UA and am partnered with UMC for 3 years after graduation. I would be happy to answer questions if you have any....I remember in great detail waiting in anticipation to hear if I got in!:lol2:

ajwildcat, how do you like the program so far if you are still studying? If now, how do you like working at UMC? What are the admission people looking for on your application? I already got a master degree, worked in a hospital (research) for a year and volunteered at a hospital for a year. What other experience do I need? Thanks!

Is this "free tuition" program still being offered?

Also, do you have to have a BA in a specific major or can it be any major? I ask because I have a BA in Psychology and am not sure if I would qualify for this program.

They changed the program to a direct entry master's program. Rumor has it there were nine sponsored spots for the last cohort.

Thank you NomadMomma. Wow only 9 spots. It's too bad the economy is bringing everything down, even people who want to continue or start school. And still there is shortage of nurses, people getting super burnt out or hurt.

Does anyone know how many of the 2011 August accelerated UofA nursing grads have contracts with UMC?! I did not graduate from the UofA's nursing program, but from another accelerated BSN program, but I would like to work at UMC. However, I see that they will hire the August 2011 nursing grads before they hire anyone else, so I'm wondering what my chances are. Please, if anyone knows, I would appreciate the information!!! I am in tears at the thought that I might not be able to get a job there, because none of the other Tucson hospitals even seem to hire new grads.
